Cool!
Right place, right time. For how crappy the pay and quality of play is in the G, if you competently toil enough there you can get these call ups. The G is sending more and more guys to the NBA every year.
The guys off making money in good European leagues are shut out from these opportunities.

Right place right time classy post. How exactly does a player like David getting a contract shut out the opportunities of players in Europe?

Pretty cool. I believe a 10-day contract is worth $50,000? That's some quick bucks for 3-4 games, 10-15 minutes per game? $50,000 hourly :D

Not sure how you are getting that from what I wrote. My point is that guys good enough to land good contracts in Europe are locked up and not available for an NBA call up mid season. There is something to be said for grinding in the G for low pay (versus higher pay opportunities abroad) as you are available for call ups like this. Far superior players like Pangos or NWG may never get an opportunity in the NBA as they have chosen the European path. Thatís all.

Not sure if you knew this but the top 100 paid players in Europe are paid much more on average than the bottom 100 players in the NBA.

I find it interesting that David has been cut multiple times from foreign leagues yet is now on his third NBA call up. It says something about the quality of players in some foreign leagues relative to the NBA.

.

You sure about that Mojo?
I do not know how to access the top 100 salaries in Europe, but I do know that the NBA minimum is $815,816, and if you average out the bottom 100 full year salaries(not including G league guys and 2 way guys) in the NBA it is about 1.2 million a year.
From what I know of European salaries paid to American players I can guarantee you there are not 100 Americans making that much cash in Europe.

Well I wouldn’t bet my life on it. But I am quoting Fran Fraschilla here:
http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/21691644/fran-fraschilla-ranks-world-top-basketball-leagues-nba

The EuroLeague has long established itself as the benchmark for basketball outside the NBA. Rebranded in 2000, it is the top professional club competition in Europe with growing attendance and college basketball-like atmospheres, with increased sponsorship and television revenues. Made up of 16 teams, the league is so financially stable that approximately 100 players are making as much or more money than the bottom 100 players in the NBA.

Most people don’t realize European salaries are quoted in net after tax terms and often with all expenses covered like rent, car, food etc. so when you hear a guy is making 700k in Europe, you tranlate that from euros to USD and then gross to pretax dollars you might be looking at 1.6mm USD.

And I didn’t say top 100 American players, just players.

I saw that Kevin Pangos is making 250k euros net from relativly small budgeted Zalgiris. He is considered one of the most under paid guys in the EuroLeague this year based on production, and should quadruple his pay rate this summer as a free agent. Bigger clubs like Olympiacos pay bench guys well over a million a year USD gross equivalent. I think Wiltjer as a deep bench rookie for Olympiacos is making over 1 mil. USD gross equivalent this year. Or he could have stayed in the G for 75k like Stockton hoping for that call up.

Hoping to see David get some playing time in tonight's 6:00 pm game vs. the Hawks. It's broadcasting on Root TV, Comcast #627 in Spokane. I'm also set up to record the pre-game show at 5:30 PM.

From the S-R: "Former Gonzaga guard David Stockton re-ups with Utah Jazz for another 10 days" (http://www.spokesman.com/stories/2018/mar/26/former-gonzaga-guard-david-stockton-re-ups-with-ut/)

“It’s been great. A good group of guys, great coaching staff, great everything. I’ve had a great experience and hope to continue it.”

Rubio starts at point guard. Rookie standout guard Donovan Mitchell is capable of filling in at point and Dante Exum comes off the bench. Reserve guard Raul Neto has been sidelined with a fractured wrist.

“David’s worked well and practiced well,” Utah coach Quin Snyder said. “He’s been really connected with our group. It’s good to see.”

Good news for our guy!

"A team may sign a player to two 10-day contracts in one season (they may or may not be consecutive). After the second 10-day contract, the team can only retain the player by signing him for the remainder of the season."

Here's hoping David impresses them enough to get signed for the remainder of the season.

David got three minutes of play for 5 points in today's 121-97 win over the Timberwolves. Fingers crossed ...

Pretty impressive for a skinny walkon that only got minutes at GU because of his father's name.

Pretty close. the minimum is $46,080 this year, though they can pay more (doubtful that they did). So for his 20 days with the jazz, David is picking up a $92,160 over his G league pay.

I watched enough of the games (well, probably all of the home games) to know that David was a darn good player. Nothing about dad's connection kept him on the team. I',m old but not terribly senile yet.

Sarcasm on my part, that was the line proffered by more than a few on this board.
