They're not bad. Worse loss of the season was to UVA by 12.
I expect a close game.

Your future national champion is (probably) here 1-10

7. Gonzaga Bulldogs
A year ago, Mark Few's team -- with a lineup that featured lottery pick Zach Collins and veteran Przemek Karnowski -- rumbled to the national title game, where it lost to North Carolina. Losing those players did not diminish Gonzaga's national title hopes this season. The Bulldogs are a different team with more versatile athletes. Rui Hachimura is a 6-foot-8 forward averaging 11.3 PPG. Johnathan Williams, a 6-9 forward, is equipped to guard any position. Killian Tillie is a 6-11 NBA prospect who has made 50 percent of his 3-pointers. They also boast a defense that has held opponents to 43.4 percent inside the 3-point line, the No. 6 mark in the nation.

50. UNC Greensboro Spartans
In a matchup against Virginia earlier this season, UNC-Greensboro registered 48 points. That's a respectable sum against America's top defensive team, as well as a number comparable to the 49 points North Carolina produced in a Jan. 6 loss to Virginia and more than the 36 points Clemson accrued in a Jan. 23 loss to the Cavaliers. The Spartans have held teams to worse than 33 percent from the 3-point line this year, too.

All the metrics suggest this will be a tough, grind it out kind of game. They seem like a beefed up version of San Diego.

I expect it to be pretty close but Gonzaga's superiority on offense ultimately prevails.

Should be a good character builder and remind them they have to be completely dialled in for Ohio St. (provided they get past SDSU) and not just think they have that one in the bag because they blew them out early in the season.

Interesting team.

They have a 6'10" dude in the middle, who had 71 blocks. DPOY in Conference.

They have 2 good lead guards, and their PG hit 110 3's on this season.

Slow tempo, talented players at important inside-out positions, PG & C. Also, a 6'6" wings/slasher who can score, and they bring athletes off the bench. Their depth isn't great, but they bring athleticism and energy.

Quite simply, the Spartans are about as good defensively as anyone in the NCAA Tournament. UNCG enters the postseason ranking sixth nationally in scoring defense (62.4 PPG).

They shoot a ton of 3's late in the shot clock, and decent at making them. They attempted nearly 1000 3's on the season.

A mix of interesting pieces, unique talents, good shooters, blue-chip defense = tough out.

3pt defense and dictating the pace will be key.

- unc-g, like Gonzaga play pretty much a 7 man rotation, 16,19 and 5 with 20 and above minutes a game, nobody over 30 minutes.
- fairly young, only 2 seniors in the rotation
- they are not big, guards 6', 6' and 6'3"
- play 2 fwds who are stick thin, 6'6" 205, and 6'10" at 200', two others have fair to good size 6'8" 215 and 6'9" 250, but they are 6th and 7th in scoring.
- best player is Alonzo, 6'3" jr. guard, scores 15.6 and shoots 40% at 3 range
- next best, smith, 6'6" sr fwd scores 12.3 a game, 33% at range
- 14 to 14 assist to t.o., ratio 1.0, 71% at the line, 35% at 3 and 45% from the floor.

- defense and slow tempo is their game. if we dictate the tempo and impose our size on them, I think we should beat this team..........as would the seeding suggest.

I don't like the early start time.

Especially if we lose, since I consider the tournament over when we lose.

But, we're not going to lose. This group is playing their best ball of the year.

Hope they don't look past UNC Greensboro to tOSU

I could see tOSU looking past their opponent, though. Dangerous 5-12 game, shouldn't do that.

Hmmm, really don't like the early start time. I see our guys maybe coming out cold.

Completely disagree

1. We've been to tournament kids know the routine outside kispert
2 shorter travel time. Longer time in own beds..own plane simple flight no jet lag
3. Inside game far more powerful than unc-g which is good for early games
4. They are more reliant on 3 ball than we which does not bode well for early game

I thought the tournament flew everyone everywhere during the NCAA?

We could end up going to Denver and back to Boise. :)

J/K - - Ideally the quick SW 60 minute hop.

Yes, Penn made a good run against Harvard, and hung on. Exciting to see Penn Basketball is back.
I really hope a 16th seed will knock off a 1 THIS YEAR.

Sixers will be real good next year, you know who is coming to Philly to play.

Not necessarily flights, but yes, the NCAA takes care of all travel.

Boise is over 350 miles, so GU will fly.

Zags win this fairly easily. There defensive numbers look better than they are based on tempo. Take care of the ball and shoot normal % and we’re fine. They’d have to basically play the exact same game St Marys played the first time which means out of the world shooting and even then they don’t have a Landale on the roster.

1 and 2 apply no matter when the game time is but understand your point. Still, it will be 1:30 to their body clocks and I would keep their sleep schedules on east coast time. Also, they are extremely slow tempo and play high level of defense--two traits that favor early game times I would think. Another thing: from past experiences, the early games get a lot less attendance and thus, less benefit of playing close to home. Sure the GU fans will show but the other west coasters that have seats that would cheer GU aren't as likely to show for 10:30 than a 4:30 or 6:30 game.

I am watching the game and they don't seem to play that slow. We have played much more deliberate teams. There big isn't very skilled, but it's interesting that they use him in the middle of their full court press.

I liked Closky’s breakdown. Foul trouble on JWill would be hard to overcome. Much like Collins’ being in foul trouble in the finals game last year. Jonathan usually does a pretty good job of avoiding fouls, but sometimes the refs will zero in on a player.
