Gonzaga & St Mary with this new found revenue need to commit to a newer larger basketball arena. We have everything else in place except for this since we have outgrown the current facility.

MWC Attendance per game avg in 2017 # Ranked in Top 100
Air Force avg 1,744
Col. State avg 3,926
Nevada avg 8,922 #50
UNLV avg 10,120 #39
SDSU avg 12,195 #25
New Mexico avg 11,768 #28
Wyoming avg 4,571
Boise St avg 5,396 #97
Fresno St. avg 6,586 #80
San Jose avg 1,863 #16
Utah St. avg. 6,872 #77

versus WCC
Gonzaga 6,000 #89
San Diego 1,619
Santa Clara 1,738
Pepperdine 1,368
St. Mary's 3,092
BYU 14,476 #14
Pacific 2,143
Portland 2,143
San Fran 1,901
Loyola Marymount 2,202

Grand Canyon 6,817 **Technically they would be #77

http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/stats/m_basketball_RB/Reports/attend/2017.pdf

Gonzaga #22 for all game attendance in 2017. Gonzaga is the only school out of both conferences to rank in the Top 30 for total attendance (Road, Home, Neutral) this despite having a relatively small arena. If Gonzaga had 3k more home court seats it would be in the Top 10!

IIRC, the MAC could be expanded by about 2,000 seats at a very high cost . A new arena would probably be $100,000,000. Just a WAG.

I think it would be tough to justify getting rid of a 14 year old arena.

What would the current (current) Kennel even be used for?

I doubt SMC will do a major upgrade to their facilities. Maybe cosmetic and a few more seats, but not enough to make a significant difference. At least according to what SMC fans posting here have said about the difficulty of getting more fans to the games because of their location.

Who cares about SMC's junior high gym? They have proved they arent interested in improving their program and as far as we know they arent invited.

The Kennel is still relatively new, and way too nice to tear down to rebuild bigger.

They physically cannot improve the footprint of their gym. The land is not suitable for expansion. There was a thread about it on their board.

What's the sound of an additional 2000 fans sitting on their hands?

I kid, I kid. Sort of. But I do think squeezing in a few hundred more seats wouldn't be the end of the world.

Unless it's an unbalanced schedule.

"Who do we get at home this year?!!?"
"SJSU and Co St and AF"
"Ahh man..."

Seems to me other schools manage to find BIG rental arenas for games. Why cant GU or St M??? Contract instead of building.

Maybe I could even get a seat once in a while too!!

Probably not practical. Do you recall what it would take to add additional seats?

Never gonna happen. First off, Zags would forfeit the true home advantage that comes with the Kennel Club in the home court. Secondly, a rented facility controls the proceeds from vendors. Zags probably make significant money with concession sales at home games.

It's mostly about the money

Not sure why we keep assuming SMC.

As of right now, they aren't one if the teams being courted.

Sorry...just don't see the move as a step up...moving to the Pac 12, maybe.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the Zags move to the MW, they do build a new arena - 12,000 seats or so on campus, and the current MAC becomes home for the women’s program, volleyball, etc. The women draw well enough to support the MAC. As a season ticket holder, I think a new facility would put me out of the game since the new seat licenses would be very expensive but there seems to be no shortage of money for GU, or at least the Administration believes that to be the case since they appear to be hell bent on monetizing every event possible and squeezing the last buck out of the program and fans.

I would bet the deed to the house that a new 12,000 seat arena would not be built

Law of supply and demand rules. Not nearly enough demand for a 12,000 seat arena.

never happen ----more likely: they spend way more than they should to add 1,000-1,500 seats in the MAC on the west and east ends

I'm not voting for it, but Mulligan Field would be a likely spot to expand the MAC into.

The current facility was built to emulate the atmosphere of Cameron indoor. It will stay that way regardless of what conference they are in. And it should.

As a season ticket holder....Do you attend most/all WCC games? Do you get a feel most other season ticket holders find WCC games entertaining?

Just curious

I don’t believe GU will build or even expand current arena for many moons if ever

I give away half of the WCC home schedule-----no need to see Pepp/LMU/Portland/SCU.......those are better from the couch....apathy? not to me ....boredom of predictable 20-30 pt blowout
