Wednesday, the NCAA approved a plan for Division I basketball seasons to begin on the Tuesday preceding the second Friday of November, and ESPN immediately announced it would stage the annual Champions Classic – the doubleheader matching Duke, Kansas, Kentucky and Michigan State – on that date.

This will really help the Zags because it will allow the non-league schedule to become more spaced out. The team ran into problems this season where they went right from PK80 to Incarnate World to Creighton to Nova. Too many games in too short of a period. Not enough practice time in between to just work on themselves. Not enough prep time for Villanova.

Does this potentially open the door for one or two more OOC games? I'm not sure if the Zags hit their limit the last few years or not.

I don't believe so. It's 13 max. I looked at Notre Dame's schedule (who played in a holiday tourney: Maui), and they played 13 non-league games. And even if they could play more, I don't see GU doing it for the reasons I suggested above. The team needs rest and an ability to practice on their own stuff. They chewed off more than they could handle by playing all of those games in late Nov/early Dec.
