Perkins and Norvell both w/ 8 assists, and they each sat out quite a bit of the 2nd half. Not just those 2 though. Good ball movement, some beautiful feeds for easy buckets. Plus they were draining the 3's most of the game, before going cold down the stretch.

A bit related, that had to be about the least effective zone defense I've ever seen tonight. Santa Clara has some work to do.

I thought before tonight the sky was falling??

Maybe just a brief respite. Always time for the sky to fall again later.

Good to see Kispert with 4 assists too. 28 assists to 7 turnovers. 7 players in double figure not including Tillie or JW3. Pretty solid night. Largest margin of defeat for a bad Santa Clara squad. There’s hope that this team can pull it together. Especially if Kispert and Norvell become regular set up passers.

I think 28 assists is ranked in top 5 in GU history.

When a team brings the ball up, a pass to the guy in the corner who stops and pops a 3. That is an assist.

The guy who's wide open?

As it should be.

An assist is a pass that directly leads to a basket.

I'm confused, did someone say that it wasn't?

Just to be clear, when the team brings the ball up, a pass to a back door cutter for an alley oop is also an assist!

Too bad there’s no recognition of a great pass to a wide open teammate who either misses the shot or fumbles it away. Lol

Agreed. But the coaches know!

sometimes assists are overrated as a statistic.

Also underrated.

Indirect assists can be huge.

Larsen is very good with the hockey assists. The ball never sticks on his hands and the defense seems to be out of position and chasing the ball around a lot when he’s in the lineup. He also made a great post up that opened up Tillie for an easy bucket (another type of “assist” that won’t show up in the box score.)

The passing was beautiful. The game looked like Gonzaga basketball to me. It was great to see Norvell and Kispert passing so well. Those two freshmen can really play. I'm impressed. Actually, I'm more impressed with good passing than I am with good shooting, accept for Melson because he has been so horrible this year making shots. It was good to see him make some last night. Norvell looked so good last night, and his D keeps getting better.

wow 3rd most
yes this SCU team is terrible but other Zag teams got to play against some terrible teams, too.
Zags got them scrambling last night to beat the post double team and knocked down some open looks, good to happen
agree with Reborn on JIII's solid performance last night
