Rui's on a steady track to becoming one amazing Zag. He'll get more and more comfy with GU's program, Spokane, etc. Really glad Rui's at GU - and that he'll certainly have more opportunities to make more FTs this season.

Rui has speed and glides around the whole gym. But are his reflexes and quickness elite level? Do quick players blow by him because he doesn't have good defensive technique yet, or is he limited athletically in that department? Kyle Wiltjer, I believe, was limited by his athleticism for quickness and although Hachimura has greater lateral quickness than Wiltjer I use Wiltjer because I think it was a common perception that his defense was sharply limited by his lack of lateral quickness. Sometimes this year when Rui is battling other players he looks not as quick as some of his opponents. one person's opinion....

Before the Villanova game, Bilas said that Rui was the best athlete on the floor..... that didn't prove out during the game....but he might be right...

Before the Villanova game. the broadcasters said that Rui was the best athlete on the floor..... that didn't prove out during the game....but they might be right...

what makes his athleticism special is that rui has the frame to put on more muscle and not lose a step...especially important at the next level. bridges is a little small for a 3 in the nba.

Rui's definitely got some upside. That alley oop at the end of the game was, WOW!

Your english is improving each time you write! :)

Making 17 FTs in a row is amazing for a kid with his size/game.

Here, the phrase would be "Rui has made 17 free throws in a row" - because it is in the past. And, "failure" is a strong word, almost as if he did something wrong. He certainly would not be doing anything wrong by missing one out of 20 free throws. :)

I am impressed with anyone who can master languages of the west and east. Keep up the great work! We love having our kids followed all over the world. It is a big part of who we are. This is really exciting to see the Japanese people take such an interest in one of our Zag family. Please tell others they are welcome here.

Now that we have this thread, $5 says he misses one in the next game.

Raivio with 3 of the top 5 - can't say I'm surprised by that.

I remember watching the game in '05 when Raivio tied the (at that time) all-time GU record with 41....then missed the next one. hah. I think I remember Raivio even chuckling after that one.

Point guards, all 3 of them.

Morrison and Daye may have been the two that shot best as front court folks, 3s or bigger, but I'm just guessing.

Am I the only one that sees the humor in the fact that ravio leads the most consecutive and is in three of the top 5 of that category but is not even in the top 10 in either season long or career free throws made? How does that work lol

He didn't shoot lots, but when he did, he made them.

Good points. I just woulda though 2007 (at the end towards February and March when he was basically the team) he would've had more. Maybe it's just a common misperception... so long ago now lol

I was watching that game with TobiasZag and a couple other guys on the top floor of Dillon. When he tied the then-GU record with the first of two free throws, I said something to the effect of "watch him miss this next one", and he did.

TZ and the rest of the guys ribbed me pretty hard for jinxing it.

With his kind of FT percentage, teams but Morrison on the line instead.

English that most people use to talk about free throws:

He made a free throw.

Or

He missed a free throw.
