Got a one day break... not much time for everyone on this thread. Should have had it up before tonight's game... my bad.

What do we hope to see against the Jays... thoughts... predictions.

Have at it boys and girls!

Zags are rolling and they're at home.
To get to 90 against Creighton I hope to see few TOs, good FT shooting and no one fouling out. I'd like to see Larsen continue his improvements and get some good buckets against Creighton. I also hope to see Cory playing OK with Norvell and Hachimura in often to help Cory best heal up his ankle.

Zags need to be locked in and PK80 intensity level ready to roll. Creighton is good and deep (10 players earning 10+ mpg) and will not be intimidated at all by Zagsí size advantage. Their only loss of the season was by 6pts to a Baylor Bears team that boasts more size and depth up front than Zags.

Perkins and Melson will have to check Bluejays leading scorers Marcus Foster and Khyri Thomas. *These will be great matchups. Iím very psyched for this game and glad itís only a day away!!

Rui ready for a prime time performance for his team!!? Zags need him to be dominant if Kispert is out.

I think they'll hang with us through a half and we start to put a little distance between us in the second, only to have them desperately fight back to close out too close for comfort.

I hope this is Rui's statement game, that he's ready to now be as reliable a weapon as anyone else.

We'll go up on them early, they'll close the gap a bit but then we'll extend to 12 points by the end of the first. Then we'll come out of the half and let them back in it. Its the Zag way more often than not.

I have watched them play a couple of times this year and came away very impressed. This won't be easy, they saw us perform at PK80 and will want that resume building win just as bad as we do. I see a close competitive game through the first 30 min. Our experience (J3, Silas, Perk) get us through.

Would hope to see a continuation of PK80 play (eliminating the final regular minutes vs Longhorns) but I don't think we will. Creighton's veteran team looks impressive. Believe our guards can't handle either Foster or Thomas defensively, look for them to combine for 40 to 50 pts. Without Kispert at 100% and Josh's 3 point shooting returning to the statistical mean, think Bluejays prevail in an entertaining, high scoring affair: Bluejays: 87 Bulldogs 84.

A well-played game by both teams where the home crowd gets to leave happy. Late fouls and solid free-throw shooting down the stretch will make the final score not as close as the game really was. And I'll be in Spokane in time to catch most of the second half (but only on tv :mecry:)!

So If Corey is not starting or playing, I hope Rui will get his minutes, which is about 28 minutes. If you project that out to what Rui has done this year, he would lead the team in points, rebounds, and an astounding 93% at the free line, his free throw form is so sweet.
Rui is growing up quickly before our eyes. He is my hope for a deep run this year, taking away nothing from JW, Tillie, Perkins, and Silas.

Hello fellow Zag fans. Many of you may remember me as the amateur “poet laureate” of the Zag Board in the good old days. I was blamed, without guilt, for several Zag losses that followed some of my efforts. The poetry was tongue in cheek, inane, banal, lame, and below mediocre, but it brought a smile to the legendary El Voce, who was my muse. I have subsequently gone into retirement from such foolish endeavors.

As many of you know I am a double alumus. I attended Creighton medical school in Omaha in the days of Eddie Sutton when the Jays made their deepest tournament runs. In my Freshman year when I spent many an evening in the old Omaha Civic Auditorium with my fellow students, a conglomeration of graduate students, law students, dental students, pharmacy students, medical students and undergraduates. We were a rowdy bunch in our own right. Omaha is blessed with some of the finest drinking establishments in the entire country and prior to the games we would socialize and loosen our vocal cords after consuming pints of Falstaff beer. The nights were invariably cold and snowy (more so than Spokane). Creighton that year had a great team, they defeated NCAA runner up Marquette in Milwaukee and they lost to KU in the regional finals by a single heart-breaking stinking point after having led the entire way (until then). Those were the days when regionals were regionals, none of this cluster nonsense.

During my junior years at Creighton, the Jays hosted Gonzaga in 1976 and won. (I remember rooting less enthusiastically that evening in the Old Civic Center Arena, seated alongside my best pal, who was also a Zag who had similar mixed loyalties. The Jays won that game. The Jays and Zags met again in 1977, in the old Kennedy Pavillion. I remember thinking (possibly even hoping) that the game might be a trap for the Jays, who again defeated Buoncristiani’s lads 100-83.

The Gonzaga phenomenon has been a source of great pride and joy for me, and I continue to follow them over here in Italy, although without benefit of a lot of coverage. I have seen some of the highlight films and always follow the games on Game Tracker. This year’s Zag team is formidable. I was hoping that both teams would be undefeated when they met. I have not been looking forward to the game due to the fact that it would rekindle the deeply ambivalent feelings within my tormented soul on which team to root for.

I ‘ve visited Omaha for several games in the interim in the newer, fancier, much bigger Century Link (known locally as the Clink). Some folks think that Creighton fans are mild mannered and quiet. I must admit, the atmosphere in the CLink cannot be appreciated over the broadcasts. 18,500 vocal fans dressed in Royal Blue singing the best Sweet Caroline I’ve ever heard is quite an experience. Jay fans rarely if ever, boo an opposing team when they come onto the floor, with the possible exception of Wichita State during the MVC days. They are in my estimation, better losers than Zag fans, partly because they have had more practice at it. They are definitely more humble and appreciate good efforts and near misses. In fact they remind me of how Zag fans were back in the early 2000s, before they got spoiled and began to resemble UCLA-lite. I’ve followed the Jays to the Big East Tournament where they have yet to prevail as champs they have been runner ups twice in four years. Of all the Big East schools, Creighton continues to purchase the most tickets for the event. Throngs of Bluejays invade Manhattan and at first the locals would ask us, “… who are you guys anyway?” We encouraged them to watch magic Doug the first year, and were disappointed when Providence stole a victory from the Jays. However each successive year, we have been increasingly recognized and appreciated in the ensuing years, especially by the bartenders, who very much appreciate the tips and the business.

Zag and Jay fans share a lot of things in common. They like to party and fraternize, they are knowledgeable, vocal, loyal and devoted. There is the Jesuit tradition and the cities in which their respective Universities are located embrace them enthusiastically.

The teams are similar as well. Neither of them have a tradition of great defense, although the Zags have improved on that aspect of their game more than the Jays. Both feature high-powered offense. Both have talented guards. Both shoot the 3 ball well. Both have a tendency to see leads disappear, most recently for the Jays, against Baylor where they led most of the way by double figures only to cough it up. Creighton plays with incredible pace and Coach Mac, an offensive genius in his own right, is a great motivator and communicator. He is decidedly a good deal more affable and positive with his players than Mr. Few. (Sorry MF fans, but it is just my observation). Besides Coach Mac can still dunk the basketball!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31XFCD5TpdQ

Mac rarely if ever gets technical fouls, even on the most egregious officiating errors. He instead is prone to calmly going over to the official involved, putting his arm around him in a kindly and calm fashion, informing him that the next day when he watches the replay that he will feel foolish. I don't think the KC can get him to blow a fuse, nor do I think the Kennel itself will intimidate the Jays, who play in equally hostile environments in Philly, Providence, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, against the likes of Villanova, Providence, Butler and Xavier. I would give the edge to GU based on talent, but Creighton (IMO) has the better coach, and possibly the more imaginative offense. I am a horrible prognosticator as some of you have pointed out, but I suspect that the combined score will exceed 170. It might even exceed 180. I see that ESPN has already placed the chances of a Bluejay victory at about the same level they gave the Jays against Northwestern in Chicago, a game the Jays eventually won.

There is an old adage that you always remember your first love. It is true for me, that I can never forget the many happy times on Boone Avenue. It is equally true that you rarely marry your first love.

So, on this day, December 1, at 16:00 Central Eastern Time (07:00 PST), I Siliconzag, hereby declare that I will change my name, at least for today, to Siliconjay. I apologize to those whose feathers I may have ruffled. To Hondo, to Angelo, to Reno Zag, to Reborn,to Go Zags, to Former 1, to Zag Native, Zag Granny, to Penninsula Dog, to name a few. It grieves me to a degree, but the Jays have won my heart.

Go Jays, and Zags (after Advent). Have fun at the game Zag fans. (I will be there in spirit.)

Happy Advent, Sili

I've been thinking about you a lot lately Sili (as I always called you back when you were writing here) because I know how much you love Creighton. And honestly I am not surprised at all that you will be rooting for them tonight. But I am glad that the secret is out. hahahaha Thanks for the lengthy explanation. For those who don't know Siliconjay he rarely wrote more then a paragraph or two (quite unlike me in those days). It's nice to be able to make friends with people we meet here, and Sili is one of my best. I have missed you a lot Sili, and mostly I miss you analyses of the Zags. Unlike me you were always objective, and like me you knew a lot about the game. We appreciated the same things that we saw in the Zags, and that you always saw in Creighton players and the program. Even though your first love is Creighton I will always know you also love the the Zags, and the program that Mark Few and his staff have built here. I also know that you must have felt the pride that all Zag fans had last year because our boys finally did what he had hoped for and dreamed about for so long. But like I said in my opening post, in my kind of sarcastic way, "Good luck Creighton playing in the Kennel tonight. Good luck to you in all things, Sili, and I hope Creighton has a great year and goes deep in the NCAA national tournament. Peace.

No more injuries! Zags continue to meld and bench players to improve. If Kispert is less than 100% and not badly needed, hold him out for further healing. Villanova will be impossible without Cory. Creighton is tough enough, but if we play well and get some bounces and calls, we might survive without him. Others will have to step up.
