really really want florida to beat duke...and i think they will do it if they can keep up the hot long distance shooting...over 40% and gators win.

SMC needs to step up and beat those Bulldogs...should not have lost to WSU...IMO

Would be nice for Portland to get a win too!

OH, is the UDub vs GU game going to be on ROOT or just on PAC12 TV?

Wow, this OSU-Butler game. OSU did their best Gonzaga impression here.

Georgia is really not that great. SMC, based upon their play so far this year, is disappointing. I’m sure they will play the Zags tough and beat up on WCC fodder, though.

Heck of a game. This would not be good for the Gaels. Wouldn’t help the WCC either.

Maybe Randy knew something the rest of us didn’t when he put together his typical soft schedule.

Landale is a load though. Great player. Gaels need to make something happen here.

- as in the past, or nearly always, we will just have to build our resume on our own, no riding on the coat tail's of conference member's record.
- if we beat smc 3 times this year, it's going to be just one team to the tourney from the wcc.
- smc could miss out even if they beat us once.

Gaels go down to Georgia.

Dammit Gaels. I don’t like this like some of you do.
With all due respect to St Mary’s, they’re not our rivals, they are our best competition in the WCC. (Along with BYU). They don’t beat us enough to garner any hate from me. I respect what they have been able to do with their once moribund program.

Without them (and BYU) the WCC is closer to the Patriot League than the Pac12. We need good teams to keep us sharp. A ranked smc team is good for the league and good for Gonzaga. They needed these wins. Plus BYU looks like they might be down this year.

Ugh.

:agreed:

The Gaels miss Rahon and Pineau a lot. I expected the combination of internal development of existing players and the grad transfer, Neal, to be enough to keep them playing like a Top 25 team. So far, they havenít.

Florida still has the lead yet missed more shots than they did all game vs us. at least it feels like it.

cant believe florida returns 6'11" Egbunu in january, he's a man child.

Duke has a endless supply of 6'11" big men, at least 3 or 4, yet they are awful defensively right now.

Florida will get open looks all night as long as they move the ball.

Zags are underrated defensively on rotations and close outs.

bballbeachbum
11-26-2017, 07:33 PM
I don't think they are underrated. I think they were much improved on it today though...much. especially on forcing the dribble and running guys off the 3 point line. that way, when the open look actually popped up at times it wasn't a barrage of rhythm catch and shoots and UT looked rushed, commented on it in the game thread

I'm actually surprised Florida isn't shooting MORE 3's.

5-8 vs Duke so far, yet missing a ton of their mid range shots, which they never took vs us.

Bagley for Duke would be my #1 pick. Wow.

Not having a full scout hurt. all attn on Ohio St.

17 3's is really incredible. They have made 5 with 5 mins to go in 1st half, and just think, that's over 3X as many by game's end. Insane.

PSU has been a surprise.

PSU is good team.

They beat Portland and Utah St, and played Duke tough until the final 5 mins. Took Butler down to the wire, a 2pt loss.

Really nice surprise.

Barret Peery can COACH!

His HC record prior to PSU: 181-29 at the NCJAA level.

Big things ahead for him, other programs should take notice how he's turned them around and getting exposure, playing at a high level, a winner as a coach, etc

my guess would be Zags tried but just didn't understand how close you have to be to run guys off the 3 point line; some guys get it clearly but not to a man. But again, they seemed much better at it today. UF is a better 3 pt. shooting team, true, bit just the execution and awareness on the perimeter defending seemed much improved today, and on that aspect. Rui seemed to have a positive impact on it when he came in 1st half

enjoy the rest of the game!

we held Florida to 29 in 1st half, Duke held em to 53. Interesting.

although, Florida scored 49 in 2nd half, due in large part to Hudson's 31 2nd half pts.

our zone was effective, remember? it did force some mid rangers and drives into trouble, so much so Few went with it to start the 2nd half, then boom...the adjustments and the zone got lit up and the rest we saw

agreed.

he wasn't that good the last 3 seasons. A change of pace guard, yet not a good shooter, always off the bench, etc.

Took a huge step fwd in his final season, esp shooting the ball and leading the team on the floor.

Personally, I was kinda expecting our own Silas to take this type of step fwd with his shooting, yet it hasn't really happened. He is taking more shots, but making his usual low % (28% so far).

However, Silas is still a terrific on ball defender, and play maker around the court.

I really hope he begins using his athleticism more, such as high flying drives. He wings were clipped a bit as a younger guard, and started to fall in love with the 3 ball. Coach Few prefers shooters, yet Silas could be an elite level athlete in the lane and around the hoop. We NEED a finisher.

When Silas was younger, this wasn't needed, but this team needs a guard who can dribble drive and finish and draw fouls in grinders.

I feel he is listening to his Coaches about 'hunting his shot', yet he is not a very good shooter. A clutch one, yes, but would be nice to see his 42" vertical (confirmed) in the lane.

This isn't your typical Zag team of half court sets, rather pretty up tempo, transition based, and fast break half court offense.

Let Silas loose. I think he and all of us would be pleasantly surprised.

We were (among other things) one missed ft away from beating the number 7 team in the country, and perhaps the number 2 team as well in the same week. What could have been...not going to have many opportunities like that.

Oh well. Gotta get over it and beat Nova.

Florida made 17 3's vs us. And we still shoulda won. 1 FT.

Double OT came back to bite em in the end. We underestimate the level of fatigue. Duke is deeper.

Florida bench guys were playing well, surprised they didn't see more time as starters were gassed.
