    College Basketball Imperialism Map OT

Found this on Reddit, basically, it's a visual for how well a team is doing at the moment and quantifying that on a map. Segments are won and lost based on head-to-head matchups. I wonder how this map would have looked like last year. Moderators feel free to drop, just thought I get this out there.

"What if college basketball games were battles for land? Every county is the possession of the team located closest to it. If a team is beaten, all of their land is taken by the team to defeat them, regardless of where the game takes place. The only exception is if a team loses to a non-D1 opponent, they will retain their lands to simplify the map."

This is amazing - a combination of two of my favorite things - war games and Zag basketball!

So how does this work? I see the Zags conquered a part of Houston with their victory over Southern Texas. But then last night Ohio State beat Southern Texas... why wouldn't they then conquer Houston?

        I'm confused.

Gonzaga "owns" that portion of Houston after the victory over Texas Southern, so Ohio State would have to defeat GU to capture it.

Texas Southern lost their home land in their first game and hasn't won any other land since, so there was nothing for Ohio State to gain by beating them.

I've been following this all season on Reddit and it's seriously awesome. They have done it for other sports and it's just another cool way to visualize success. Zags are going to take a TON of territory from the Aggies tomorrow.

So Providence now owns much of Washington State and the only way for us to take it is to beat someone who knocks off Providence?

I like that Eastern owns a little piece of California.

Yes, I believe that would be the only way to regain those "lands" since the Zags don't play Providence directly.

Is there one of these for last year? Doing it over a whole season would be much more interesting.

So UW will never get Western Washington back because the Billkins beat SU?

UW would have to either beat the current "owner" of Western Washington to get it back, so whether it's still St. Louis or whomever beats St.Louis and occupies those lands.
