Alright... Zags are 2-0 and have another game to get them warmed up for PK80.

What are you hoping to see and of course your predictions... should you be so inclined.

Have at it boys and girls.

A step up in competition. Utah St. is the #133 kenpom team. Over 200 places higher than Howard. The score should reflect that. Prediction: at least a 20 pt win... I think the Aggies try and run a slower tempo to try and keep it in reach. (it won't work)

Still want to see less TO's and a bit more of making the easy play by the majority but especially, JP & ZN.

Also, side note: Melson, Tillie and JW3 adding a ton of cool, calm, and collected to this team that Nigel, Karnowski brought last year. Great to see.

Mostly, I hope to see the actual game this time. It was blacked out on all of the online options I had available to me. Being on a Saturday night, I should be able to catch this one at a local drinking establishment that has DirectTV.

I think the competition will be a little bit better than the last couple of games, but still an easy win for the good guys.

The MWC coaches picked the Aggies to finish in the bottom half of their league. They will put up more of a fight, but it's not likely to be a quality win. Still a nice opponent to play in preparation for next week. BTW - The Ohio State game is going to be a 12:30AM tip for the Buckeyes.

Utah State has a little more size than Howard, two decent returning guards, and Danny Ainge's son Crew so they are a notch ahead of Howard in scoring. But the GU depth and defense will hold them to a season low in points. GU wins by 26 with a final score of 94-68.

I don't think the zags will run up into the 90s again, utah state seems a cut above the prior two.

I hope to see continued progress on offense - more refined, less to's, continued aggressive play (with maybe fewer offensive fouls).

On defense, I hope they continue to improve. There's been a lot of talk (justified) on the diversity and shooting of the offense, but this team really has the tools for a top tier defensive team. I am so impressed with the bigs defending the high pick and roll and quickly rotating back and how the guard to guard high picks simply switch it out. This could be the hallmark of this team - I cannot remember a time when guards switching at a high pick and roll hasn't led to some sort of mismatch ... to have the size and athletic ability with all the guards (sans Wade) is a real luxury on the defensive end. Rui, Tillie, JWIII and even Larson (to a degree) have shown the ability to defend to the three point line. That's awesome. I really hope this defense continues to develop heading into PK80.

I also hope to see the zags dominate the glass. It will be much more difficult to out-rebound teams in PK80, but continued development in this area is vital in games like Utah State. Rui, Tillie and JWIII are all above average rebounders and can get rebounds out of their zone simply by being great athletes. Larson has been great on the glass, and I would expect that to continue.

It would be nice to see a lineup with Larson at the 5 and JWIII at the four -- as he did with Karno. Man, Larson's dump down passes and hits to back-door cutters look a lot like Karno. Had no idea Larson would look this good. He's a beast.

I cannot believe how strong this team looks this early in the year. PK80 will likely expose some flaws, but man, this is a good looking team.

Zags should handle this with ease, Utah State doesn't look that great. But look out for somewhat under the radar sophomore guard Koby McEwen. Last year's MW freshman of the year and preseason All-MW selection. He can easily drop 20+ on the Zags with some flair.

Oh ya ....he's Canadian and that's the only reason I mention him.

USU's bigger front court fares much better than GU's first two opponents. Using most of shot clock on each possession, along with strategic fouling, they manage to keep the total under 140. Problem is, they can't score vs Zags fierce defense. Final: GU 82-USU 57.

Rui and Norvell improve mesh with offensive flow; Rui, Larsen improved defense. Haven't seen enough of our mission veteran to draw any conclusions; even less of Ayawi; hope for more minutes. Since a blowout is expected, more experimentation with lineup combinations.

good stuff and fun to watch so far. the recovery speed and length has been on display with more perimeter helping in the first couple games than was usual last season. Is that becasue of the matchups? Idk, we'll see, but seems to be some nice defensive depth there on the perimeter, we'll know more soon with PK80 but so far looking good, and different rim protection but effective in those opening games

The Aggies have a strong back court and decent front court size but their centers are no match for GU's. I like the challenge from the Aggies good sized back court...this should show us a little more with how our guards can match up and play solid "D"...

They like deliberate play so not as many possessions for each team so we need to limit TO's and break every opportunity by hitting the boards and forcing them to shoot the shots we give them.

I think the reason the Zags defense will be better tonight is because Utah State is a good opponent, therefor the top 9 players will have to play longer. In our first two games the team has given up a lot of points in the last five minutes. I thinks its going to be one of the goals for the team tonight to keep Utah St either below 60 or in the low 60s.
