    BYU's defensive gameplan

    A hype piece: https://www.deseretnews.com/article/...-priority.html

Schroyer's not wrong, just curious to see if he can translate wishes to execution. Also not looking forward to getting mugged every possession.

He could make a big difference. I would now put them as contenders also. When zags, I believe it was gialletti ??? , who stressed defence for us which Few bought into and it made a big difference for us.

I will believe it when I see it....very good teams can win games in the 50s and 60s.....BYU can't win some games in the 80s and 90s..... NIT bound

At the end of the day, their defensive secret weapon will be: more flopping.

They'll rochambeau you for it. But of course they always get to go first.

After watching both the BYU men's and women's BB teams for more than the past decade, it is apparent they have fine-tuned their flopping to a science.

I believe that Flopping - 101 must be a mandatory fall course for all BYU basketball players.

Of course, if the flopping was not called and it was not to their benefit, they would not do it, so the officials also share in this fallacy.

So, 3 flops is a kill?

BYU has always played defense. They play a high risk style of defense that forces officials to call or not call fouls on every possession. They push, grab, reach, hack, pull jerseys, take charges, etc. as much as any team in college basketball. When the officials allow freedom to defend that way, their defense can force a lot of turnovers and frustrate opposing offenses. Those turnovers feed their fast break offense. When they are forcing turnovers and hitting their three-point shots, they can bury teams with quick 20-6 runs. They can pull off some monster upsets like that win in Spokane a year ago.

When the officials are not as generous, they never seem to adjust to how a particular game is being called. On those nights, they can lose to any team in the country. That is how they can beat the No. 1 team in the country on the road and lose at home to Utah Valley University in the same season. Until they learn to win by playing a more traditional defensive style, they will continue to be vulnerable to head-scratching losses and continue to hover somewhere between the NCAA bubble and the NIT.
“No team in the country has a better winning percentage against power conference teams since 2017 than Gonzaga... the Zags are playing above average teams in the best leagues in the country and winning 78% of the time.”

I would like to see obvious flops called as a technical for unsportsmanlike conduct.

I won a soft hitting contest in grade school that way. You only have to fall for that one once.

                      I agree.

On the humorous side, Oregon's Brooks had a majestic flop last year:

...Is this a change for BYU? ...didn't they have the football team's defensive coordinator running the basketball defense as well? LOL
