First game of the season today with preseason games for 3 of our Zags:

Kelly Olynyk's Miami Heat vs. Jordan Mathews' Atlanta Hawks at 3:00 pm on NBA TV (Comcast 630)

Kyle Wiltjer's Toronto Raptors face the Los Angeles Clippers in Honolulu at 7:00 pm on NBA TV (Comcast 630)

Later in the week Zach Collins' Portland Trailblazers take on the Phoenix Suns on CSN TV (Comcast 617)

For your reading pleasure:

Here's an AP story printed in today's Spokesman-Review (http://www.spokesman.com/stories/2017/sep/30/kelly-olynyk-makes-a-big-splash-in-end-of-camp-hea/)about how Kelly's fitting in at the Heat ("Kelly Olynyk makes a big splash in end-of-camp Heat scrimmage"), with a nice pic of Kelly and Sam Dower (love that guy!) from the February 18 Pacific game at the MAC.

“Kelly just fit right in because of so many things he can do,” Heat guard Dion Waiters said. “He’s a guy who can stretch the floor, he can post up, he can pass the ball out of the post, he can do a lot of different things.”

Those are the habits the Heat want.

“There’s still a progression,” Olynyk said. “I’m still getting used to things.”

And here's some nice ink about Kyle Wiltjer in the Toronto Sun (http://www.torontosun.com/2017/09/29/canadas-wiltjer-shines-for-raptors-on-dads-old-stage), "Canada’s Wiltjer shines for Raptors on dad's old stage."

The six-foot-10, 24-year-old three-point specialist is battling for a job with the Raptors, and padded his job application Thursday night by draining five threes in a 17-point performance.

With the league’s continuing evolution into a long-range shooting league, and after the Raptors were badly outshot by Cleveland in last season’s playoffs, Toronto is looking to beef up its three-point production. And so Wiltjer and fellow Canadian Andy Rautins, also a lights-out shooter, earned training camp invites. Rautins had four threes on Thursday night in front of a jam-packed crowd of 2,700 fans.

Coach Dwane Casey laughed when a reporter noted the two shooters were Canadian.

“I don’t know what country they’re from, I don’t care if they’re from the moon,” Casey said. “Kyle shot the ball very well, Andy shot the ball very well. They executed our shot spectrum, our ball movement was good.”

Miami - Atlanta Live Stats (http://scores.espn.com/nba/boxscore?gameId=400978817)

Kelly not in the game yet, with 2:49 remaining in the first. Maybe he won't play much, if any, in these preseason games ...

Darn it! Jordan Mathews didn't get any playing time in the Heats-Hawks game. Heat won it 96-90. Kelly with 9 points, a +/- or 15, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, a steal, and 5 TOs.

What's up with all the TO's, KO?

Interesting debate among Raptors fans here on whether Kyle should make the team or not:

Some really interesting stuff later on Page 1 about the value (or lack there of) of a single skilled elite shooter in the league. How so many bigmen can now shoot and how if they can't play D they are practically useless due to the extreme use of PnR offense targeting weak defenders. You see Jeff Withey of all people shoot 4/6 from 3 last night for the Mavs?
