Shem had a really nice outing in a game against Hungary today, with 21 points and 13 rebounds. Box Score (http://test.fibalivestats.com/u/POLT/166739/bs.html)

Game story in Eurohoops.net (http://www.eurohoops.net/en/eurobasket/501809/karnowski-poland-strong-hungary/)

http://polskikosz.pl/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/karnowski-wegry.jpg

Marcin Gortat is retired and Maciej Lampe is out but Poland’s frontline still looks fearsome thanks to a dominant Przemysław Karnowski that made short work of the Hungarian defenses.

Przemysław Karnowski posted a double-double of 21 points (9/13) and 13 rebounds as Poland downed an unmanned Hungarian national team 73 – 63 in its last prep game before the EuroBasket.

The Hungarian team was unmanned? I'm impressed that they managed to score 63! ;)

Here is the Polish National team by the way:

Michał Sokołowski, SF (Rosa Radom)
Aaron Cel, PF (Polski Cukier Toruń)
A.J. Slaughter, PG (ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne)
Damian Kulig, C (Banvit)
Przemysław Zamojski, SG (Stelmet BC Zielona Góra)
Mateusz Ponitka, SG (Iberostar Tenerife)
Adam Waczyński, SF (Unicaja Malaga)
Łukasz Koszarek, PG (Stelmet BC Zielona Góra)
Tomasz Gielo, SF (Joventut Badalona)
Przemysław Karnowski, C (MoraBanc Andorra)
Karol Gruszecki, SF (Polski Cukier Toruń)
Adam Hrycaniuk, C (Stelmet BC Zielona Góra)

Adam Waczyński (#9 in the picture above) who plays for Unicaja in the Spanish ACB and EuroLeague is likely their best player. Or at least plays on the best club team. Shem is a top 3 player along with #12 pictured above (Mateusz Ponitka, SG )
Allot of these other guys are in the Polish pro league - which isn't that great - but play on the better teams that compete in the EuroCup or FIBA European Champions League. The rest seem to be on EuroCup-level teams in the top divisions of France, Spain and Turkey

I'd guess this Polish National team wouldn't be much different in quality to Shem's Andorra team which plays in the ACB and Eurocup.

Poland is missing some top players in Gortat and Lampe but they are bigmen and them missing is giving Shem a key role. He'd be a back-up to both otherwise. And the team seems deeper than years past, so they may have a good tournament.

Poland has a good shot at the playoffs - they will be favored over Iceland (and top 4 move on). A big underdog versus France (a medal contender) and likely a meaningful underdog versus Greece and Slovenia. Greece is missing many top players and looks disjointed in warm-up games so I could see Poland taking them down if they gel. Slovenia has a solid roster and has looked solid in warm-up games. They should be better than Poland and should be a Top 8-12 team. Poland is more realistic in that 10-16 range - but could surprise. I expect shem to have a featured role on Poland and should excel in this tournament. He is one of the bigger guys out there.

Mojo's usual solid contribution.

Here's a preview and evaluation of Group A: https://www.bulletsforever.com/2017/8/30/16221972/eurobasket-2017-preview-group-a-finland-france-greece-iceland-poland-slovenia

Poland

Marcin Gortat retired from European play after EuroBasket 2015, but the Polish are still in good hands. They have a number of younger players like Mateusz Ponitka. But for American audiences, former Gonzaga star center Przemek Karnowski is someone we’ll keep an eye on. Karnowski won the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award last college season. He also played many minutes in EuroBasket 2015 alongside the Polish Machine. Also, veteran guard A.J. Slaughter should keep them in good position to advance to the knockout rounds.

Slovenia

The Slovenians will be led by Heat guard Goran Dragic who said that this will be his last international tournament. They will also have former NBA player Anthony Randolph, who now plays for Real Madrid in La Liga ACB. It will be interesting to see how Dragic and Randolph develop chemistry during group play. Slovenia should make it to the Round of 16, but they probably aren’t going much farther than that.

Looks like he finished with 11 points and 5 rebounds in 24 minutes, but Poland lost by 9.

Native, Please excuse my ignorance. When a game is going to be streamed live on ESPN3, does it mean that it will actually be on TV? If not, what needs to be done to see it?

Thanks!

Thanks! As far as I know, when a game is streamed on ESPN 3 it is not shown locally on TV but can only be watched in the US on ESPN's online channel on your computer here: http://www.espn.com/watch/

Select "Schedule and replays"

I think the France game will be available here, streamed live at 6:30 AM Pacific time: http://www.espn.com/watch/schedule/?categoryId=1&startDate=20170905&type=upcoming

You can also catch the game later from the "Replay" menu on the site.

There are some rules about eligibility to access ESPN3. Maybe this will help you: http://support.espn.com/articles/en_US/FAQ/How-can-I-watch-an-ESPN3-event?section=WatchESPN

Hope that helps!

That knocks Poland out of the playoffs - so they will finish outside the top 16.
Not as good a showing from Shem as I expected. Didn't start, didn't get as many minutes or touches as I expected. Maybe I was biased from a couple of the good showings he had in the warm-up games where he seemed a key player. Turned out he was more of a role player for Poland.
