For training camp (http://uproxx.com/dimemag/kyle-wiltjer-raptors-signing-free-agency/). Nonguaranteed deal. He gets to explore his Canadian roots.

Very interesting.
Kyle was on the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, Houston's G-League affiliate, through all of last year. The Vipers played the 905 (Raptors affliate) in the G-League finals, so all the Raptors coaches scouted this Kyle for matchups, and I guess they liked what they saw.

Could be a legit shot for Kyle to make the Raptors as a 14th/15th man.

My hope is he is available for Canada during these World cup qualifier windows.

Raptor Republics take:
http://www.raptorsrepublic.com/2017/08/15/raptors-sign-kyle-wiltjer-non-guaranteed-deal/

The Raptors swooping in to bring Wiltjer into camp makes sense given their lack of shooting and thin depth chart at the four. At 6-foot-10 and 243 pounds, Wiltjer could probably even play some small-ball center if needed, though that skill is more relevant if he’s waived and his rights are acquired by the 905. As a power forward, Wiltjer is a solid rebounder and a serious outside threat with a notable face-up game, though he comes with some defensive limitations due to below-average athleticism for the position. He can keep he ball moving on the offensive end, and his quick release and lack of conscience from outside are such that defenses will have to pay him close attention, even if he’s playing as a lower-usage option. That gravity could be useful on an NBA bench, even in somewhat of a specialist role (to start, anyway – he’s still just 24).

In terms of 14th or 15th men, the Raptors could certainly do worse in terms of plug-and-play offensive pieces at a thin position. Whether Wiltjer ends up on the roster could depend on a number of factors, like the progress of Pascal Siakam and Bruno Caboclo, the recovery timeline of OG Anunoby, and how combo-forwards like Alfonzo McKinnie and Malcolm Miller (when healthy) look. The Raptors currently have 13 players under guaranteed contract, two on two-way deals, McKinnie with a small guarantee, and two players (Wiltjer and Kennedy Meeks) on some form of camp deal. The issue will be that keeping two more players on NBA contracts would push them a little above the luxury tax, and so they may deem a 15th man superfluous. That could make training camp a battle for the 14th roster spot, though they could always keep 15 and waive one of the non-guaranteed players before the Jan. 10 guarantee date. (They could also keep 15 and pay the tax, though the “real” cost of the 15th man then shoots into the millions when tax disbursements are considered.)

Should Wiltjer be waived after camp, the 905 would not need to acquire his rights from Rio Grande, as Wiltjer has technically never entered the G-League player pool except as an assignment player. That means the Raptors could make him a G-League Affiliate Player if he’s cut in camp, should he be open to it and go unclaimed on waivers. (This is likely the plan, but they’ll give Wiltjer the chance to impress in camp, and they’re built such that plans can change.)

Born in Portland, Oregon, Wiltjer has consistently suited up for the Canada Basketball program and becomes the lone Canadian on the Raptors’ training camp roster so far.

Here’s how the roster looks at present:

PG: Lowry, Wright, VanVleet, Brown (two-way)
SG: DeRozan, Powell
SF: Miles, Caboclo, Anunoby (injured), McKinnie (small guarantee)
PF: Ibaka, Siakam, Miller (two-way), Wiltjer (non-guaranteed)
C: Valanciunas, Poeltl, Nogueira, Meeks (Exhibit 10)

Training camp begins on Sept. 26 in Victoria..

Kyle finished up training camp for the raptors with a scorching 17 points on 5 of 9 three-point shooting in a game against other members of the Raptors' squad:

The Raptors head to Hawaii for two games against the L.A. Clippers, Oct. 1 and 3, jet back up the coast to play in Portland against the Trail Blazers, Oct. 5, and then wrap-up their pre-season playing Detroit in Toronto on Oct. 10 and the Bulls in Chicago on Oct. 13.

Was surprised to see this tweet today from the Raptors. I thought Kyle had been looking pretty good.

The @Raptors have waived centre Kennedy Meeks, guard Andy Rautins and forward Kyle Wiltjer. Toronto’s roster now stands at 17 players.

Ya I thought he was playing pretty good too and I am mildly surprised. I read a few good arguments that he is about 5 years too late as a elite shooting big man who is awful on D. nowadays there are plenty of bigmen who can shoot the three but can still adaquetly defend. KW would be such a target on the PnR that he is near impossible to keep on the floor in the NBA.

He has had three solid shots with NBA teams. I think it is now time for him to head to Europe and make some money.

Lots of rumors and speculation on Twitter about KW and Baskonia again (Spain's ACB and EuroLeague team). Something might happen in the next couple days.

Rumors of Kyle to Baskonia picking up steam. It seems there is a deal worked out "unless someone better comes along" (I love the Spanish translation).

Basically EuroLeague teams often hold a roster spot open waiting for the cuts from the NBA. Baskonia desperately wants a 4, likes Kyle, but know his deficiencies, and are sort of waiting to see who else gets cut in the next couple days (sucks but that's the way it works).

If this happens Kyle would be playing an the best quality club of any Zag outside the NBA. Good place to start - but will be under immediate pressure to perform.

If Wiltjer signs with Baskonia, the November 16th date will be special. Pangos vs Wiltjer :D

I was trying to figure out a date for the last day for NBA players to be dropped from NBA rosters but couldn't find it. Anyone know? Here's a list of important dates in the NBA season, but I can't figure out where Kyle would fit it. http://www.nba.com/key-dates#/

That link says that Oct. 16 is the deadline for rosters to be finalized for opening day. That's probably the last day to cut players or send them down to the G-League.

Ya I head final cuts are Monday.

I don't think they are all really "sent down" to the G. The two way contracts are fully controlled by the NBA club and the last two cuts can be "assigned" to an NBA clubs G league affiliate. Meaning if that player chooses to play in the G, it can only be to that G league team. However any of the 30 clubs can still claim them and bring them up if they want (I believe thus is what is happening with Stockton). Guys drafted are a different story of course and the NBA team controls their rights. Not sure if KW was one of the last two cut by the Raps so he might be able to go anywhere in the G, could be the 905 o even back to the Vipers. but rumors are still that he heads to Europe.

I just looked at the Raptor's Depth Chart and Kyle is listed as the 3rd string SF...so that means he made the roster or is going to G-League...

Can anyone make heads or tails on the actual roster?

NBA.com doesn't have him as one of the 17-18 on the Raptors, and they don't have him on the search by name, player list.

Probably gone to Europe.

He's not with the Raptors now. That's official.

Final cuts and roster were due yesterday. Teams still have some two way contracts to hand out so we are seeing some of the final cuts picking up those. Also one or two cuts getting picked up completely on gauranteed deals by other teams (like Richard Jefferson today). Still some scrambling going on the next couple days.

KW is probably waiting this week out to see if another club is interested in a guaranteed deal (not likely) , a two way contract (very possible) and weigh that against a European deal. Or he may decide on just sticking around for another year in the G league. Not many open spots in Europe left but way better money and the rumor that he could have a deal in hand with Baskonia.

Disappointed to hear that KW signed a G league contract with the 905. Raptors team.
The Baskonia contract dried up as they turned their focus on another player. It's a shame as he would have made 10x with Baskonia and played at a much higher level. But that's the risk if you are focused on the NBA. The contracts in Europe are mostly dried up by now.

He didn't even get a two way contract. Well at least he is close by if the NBA comes calling.

I think he got some garbage minutes in the last game, so hopefully the up it this game.
They need him (or his scoring) - but you just don't go rolling into a team like Oly midseason and get minutes.

The coach just put him in in the middle of the second quarter. Kyle immediately made a great defensive play in the post, and snatched the rebound. He seems to be moving pretty decently laterally.

2 fouls and a turnover, and Kyle got subbed out. One of the fouls was him being a bit over-aggressive trying to deny an entry pass to the post with his team being in the bonus. The turnover seemed like a pretty good pass that his teammate just didn't react to in time.
