If I was McDermot, I would take a lesson from Mark Few. McDermot has great job securtiy at a basketball only school in an upward trending conference. Following in the footsteps of Thad Matta at Ohio State is a tall order. He has done a great job at Creighton and if it were me I would want to keep developing that program.

Mark Few isn't the first coach to value working conditions and community, not just the amount of the compensation package or historical prominence of a program, in making a decision about a coaching career, but he has certainly shown others that it might be the smart decision in the long run.

??

It's not a bad city, Jesuit, no football.

I'd like to hear why you believe that way, maybe you know what I don't - again.

That's a good point, maybe Few was a trendsetter. Smart finally went to Texas but turned down several offers while he was at VCU. Marshall seems content at Wichita St. and has passed on quite a few other schools. Xavier has long been a stepping stone program for coaches but maybe Mack will change that and stay put.

McDermott had 4 losing seasons as HC at Iowa St., maybe he had enough of BCS/Power 5 conferences then and doesn't want to try it again.

He can coach the game. He can recruit. He is being treated very well. The Bluejays are in an excellent conference.

Money isn't everything.

It isn't always greener on the other side of the fence!

He made the right choice...IMO

Being a good Xs and Os coach doesn't guarantee success at the D1 level, especially in the P-5 conferences...the pressure to win is incredible and it can just add more negative stress...I believe he doesn't have a tremendous ego but is rather a pretty down to earth person, who has reached a position where he feels pretty darn comfortable...had his PG not gotten injured their season might well have been different...who knows...
