    Williams Returning for Senior Season
Zag withdraws his name from NBA Draft

SPOKANE, Wash. – Johnathan Williams will return to Gonzaga for his senior season after initially submitting his name into the NBA Draft without hiring an agent.

By not signing with an agent, Williams retained his collegiate eligibility to keep the option to return to Gonzaga in 2017-18. A key player in last season’s run to the national championship game, he will be a focal point on the 2017-18 team.

Williams averaged 10.2 points and 6.4 rebounds per game this season. He made 59 percent of his shots from the field, including 40 percent from behind-the-arc. He blocked 36 shots and made 27 steals in 2016-17.

Williams was named First Team All-West Coast Conference after ranking eighth in the league in rebounds, third in field goal percentage and ninth in blocks. During league play, he was fourth in the WCC averaging 7.8 rebounds per game and second shooting 62 percent from the field.

The Memphis, Tenn. native, was named the Most Outstanding Player on the All-Tournament Team during the NCAA Tournament West Regional in San Jose, Calif. He totaled 32 points and 14 rebounds on 12-of-19 shooting from the field during the two games inside the SAP Center.

Ecstatic that he'll be coming back. He has a huge opportunity to shine next year after already contributing in so many ways this past season. I imagine the draft workout process was very instructive and beneficial.

Thx for the official update BZ

          Coaches knew all along.

This was the plan they made with J3. It was Coach B-Mike and Tommy who suggested JIII declare and get feedback.

What he needs to work on.

I disagree with many posters suggesting he can't rise on Draft boards next season. Just watch. He will.

J3 has the ability to show more...and score more...even shoot more. The FT's will always be an issue, but showing more shooting mid-range, more face up, his right hand, etc.

NBA has taken notice to his ability to hit 3pt shots (40%, 35%, 36% his 1st 3 yrs), his athleticism, motor, and the growing rim protection.

As much as they were somewhat blind-sided by Collins' early declaration and NWG's expected departure, they already made plans to build with and around J3 next season.

Williams draws fouls at a high clip, the 2nd highest on the team. If he is able to find a consistent FT stroke this Summer, he has ability to be a 15 & 10 type player.

a 6'9" PF with next level athleticism who can hit 40% of this 3pt shots earns a roster spot in today's NBA.

Good overview. Thanks. I think J3 will have a great season. As I've posted before, flattest FT shot since Elgin Baylor. I think a little more arc would do him wonders at the line. The hole just gets bigger!

Tantamount to signing a five star, McD level player, IMO.

AFAIK, there are no incoming 5-star Burger Boys that have experienced playing in the NCAA title game. He's a grown man, as compared to 18-19 year olds.

Look, lets be clear, he wasn't a 3 pt machine. Sure he made some. SO did Collins...........he needs work. Glad he's back. Won't solve our problems which go beyond J3. But still, he's welcomed back with open arms. Good player and a good kid.
Still, when the COY and FF team can't seem to find some high performing kids to fill 4 departures , to me it smells funny.
Nevertheless, J3 should have a good upcoming season. More so if Tillie stays healthy.

With you on that one. Should see a 25-30% increase in production for J3 this season. Wouldn't be surprised to see him average 18-9 on 60% shooting which are AA type numbers.

Phew (Few).... This would have been crushing to the Zags hopes in 2017/18. He is our best and most important player next year, likely without question (certainly among the returnees).

Still smelling roses. Didn't really have any scholarships to offer until April when most recruits were locked up. Right now the program is alternating between great and elite seasons each year and that trend seems like it will continue over the next 2 years. A lot of new faces, but the talent is there and they should be peaking at the right time.

He needs to do everything humanly possible to get his free throwing shooting form repaired. Unlike Shem, who has great form and just seemed to miss due to psychological reasons, JW3's form is terrible. He shoots as if he has a broken wrist or something.
