SPOKANE, Wash. -- Gonzaga's athletic programs continued to thrive in the latest release of the Academic Progress Rate by the NCAA on Wednesday with seven teams earning a perfect 1,000 score and all GU teams combining for a 997 mark.

That mark is tied for the second-best combined average for any school in the nation, behind only the Ivy League's Dartmouth. Gonzaga is tied for second with Villanova and Holy Cross, and one point ahead of Brown, Yale and Penn, who are all at 996. The next closest West Coast Conference school was Pepperdine at 989.

Every Bulldog squad achieved a higher score than both the West Coast Conference average (982) and NCAA average (981) for their respective sport. Earning a perfect 1,000 score for GU were the women's basketball, women's tennis, men's and women's golf, men's and women's cross country, and men's soccer programs.

The NCAA's 2015-16 overall four-year rate is 981, up two points from the four-year rate announced last year. Nationally, Three-point improvements in baseball and football four-year rates contributed to that increase. Baseball teams earned a 973 four-year rate (up from 970), and football teams earned a 962 (up from 959). In addition, men's basketball teams earned a 966 four-year rate (up from 964), and women's basketball teams earned a 980 (up from 978).

Per the NCAA, every Division I sports team across the nation calculates its APR each academic year. Scholarship student-athletes each semester earn one point for remaining eligible and one point for staying in school or graduating. Rates are an average of each school's performance for the past four years.

The announcement comes one week after the NCAA released APR Public Recognition awards for teams scoring in the top 10 percent of their respective sports. For Gonzaga, 11 of its 15 teams (indoor and outdoor track are combined), were publicly recognized for this high achievement. Of the 306 schools that placed a team on the top APR list, Gonzaga's 73.3 percent was the second-highest rate of any school in the nation, behind only Holy Cross' 75 percent. Dartmouth was third at 73.1 percent.

Individually, Gonzaga's women's golf team was one of just 93 teams nationally that has earned Public Recognition Awards in each of 12 years of the Public Recognition program. In addition to women's golf, Gonzaga's baseball, men's basketball, women's basketball, men's cross country, women's cross country, men's golf, men's soccer, women's tennis, men's track and women's track.
