SPOKANE, Wash.--Two Gonzaga outfielders received academic recognition Thursday as Sam Brown and Daniel Fredrickson earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors due to their strong performance both on the diamond and in the classroom.

Brown, a redshirt senior and four-year starter, is hitting .312 as the Bulldogs' leadoff hitter. He's tallied 54 hits on the season, just nine away from a career best. The Mill Creek, Wash., native is also working his way up the program's all-time career lists, currently sitting at ninth with 202 games played, eighth with 10 triples, and seventh with 232 hits. A physical education major, Brown has posted a 3.61 GPA during his career at Gonzaga, and he's also been instrumental on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and in developing mental health awareness among Gonzaga student-athletes. This is Brown's first regional academic honor; he received WCC All-Academic Honorable Mention each of the last two seasons.

Fredrickson, meanwhile, is second on the team with a .305 batting average and has spent a large portion of the season as the Zags' No. 2 hitter. The redshirt sophomore from Woodinville, Wash., also tops the squad in West Coast Conference action, going 27-for-79 with a .342 average. He's second with 17 RBIs and a .443 slugging percentage against WCC foes. Academically, Fredrickson has tallied a 3.81 GPA while majoring in mechanical engineering during his two years at Gonzaga. This is Fredrickson's first year of eligibility for academic awards.

The outfield duo will now advance to CoSIDA's Academic All-America voting, where the Zags have had recent success. Last season, Taylor Jones was voted Third Team Academic All-American, and he was joined on the 2016 All-District squad by Brandon Bailey.

The Gonzaga baseball team will be back in action Friday, May 12, as the Zags take on Loyola Marymount. First pitch for that contest is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at Patterson Baseball Complex & Washington Trust Field.
