SPOKANE, Wash.--The Gonzaga baseball program bolstered its catching talent for next season as the Zags recently received commitments from backstops Jon Fisher and Gabe Togia. The pair will enroll in school this fall and first take the diamond for the Bulldogs in 2018.

Jon Fisher | Catcher | Victor, Idaho

Fisher is a catcher originally from Nashville, Tenn., but comes to Gonzaga from Victor, Idaho. He attends nearby Teton High School but focuses on club ball with Jackson Hole, Wyo.'s Post 43. He's a four-year starter for the club and led the squad in hitting during both his sophomore and junior seasons. Fisher has twice earned All-State selections from the Wyoming AA American Legion. As a junior, he tallied 63 hits - 25 for extra bases - while driving in 45 runs, scoring 66 runs, and drawing 42 walks. He hit .375 that season with an on-base plus slugging percentage of 1.127.

Coach Machtolf on Fisher: "Jon is an exciting talent coming to us from the Idaho/Wyoming border. He showed us some very good raw skills, and we look forward to seeing what kind of player he can become in our program."

Gabe Togia | Catcher | Federal Way, Wash.

Togia comes to Gonzaga from Federal Way, Wash., where he was a four-year varsity starter for Federal Way HS. The backstop has earned All-League honors three times so far, including last season as a junior when he hit .430. In addition to the lofty average in 2016, he also led the Eagles to the Washington 4A state playoffs for the first time in five years. During the summer, Togia plays his club ball for the Seattle Stars.

Coach Machtolf on Togia: "Gabe is a very solid catching option coming to us from one of the best summer programs in the state. Defensively, he brings a lot to the table, and we think he has the chance to develop into a very good hitter."

These two join seven signees from the fall as Gonzaga's incoming freshman class. They'll first suit up for the Zags in the 2018 season. The 2017 edition of the squad will next take the field Friday, May 12, at 6:00 p.m. for the first of a big three-game series against Loyola Marymount.
