Withers makes some good points and it is timely for me. My local paper just raised rates 11% and it is up 42% in the last 4 years. They deliver less and charge more. They put the paper to bed around 9pm and as a result box scores are a rarity, even game coverage is hit or miss. I'm old fashioned though, in the morning, I like a newspaper in one hand and a cup of coffee in the other. Tough decisions ahead for me and print media, not so tough on cord cutting. In today's world, paradigms are temporary.

I like to read the paper with a cup of coffee too but living on the east coast, we don't even get box scores of games ending at 9pm...more ads than articles...

Heck, the Championship game was played on Monday and I read about it in the paper Wednesday AM...even then it was an abridged version that concentrated on UNC.

I am tempted to subscribe to the NYT to get an "old-fashioned" newspaper to hold and read...

I used to subscribe to Seattle Times, but cancelled due to their coverage of Sonics arena (in bed with the port, #### all over Hanson) and ST3 coverage (#### all over public transit due to their Mercer Island overlords). I currently subscribe to Washington post online though and will look into the News Tribune too.

When I lived in DC, I really enjoyed reading the the Washington Post, it use to be a Sunday tradition going to a brunch at a local restaurant and taking my time to read and learn...miss those days

I don't even know where to go to get just plain box scores anymore.

Very cool, thanks for posting. Rooting for the Rockets, antipathy towards the Spurs runs deep in North Texas.

I have tried the electronic newspaper thing, and it just doesn't work for me. It's too hard to navigate, and most of all, I just like the feeling of the newspaper in my hand. It's handy to carry around.

Sorry to get a tad political, but I know numerous people who have dropped their newspaper subscriptions primarily because they are conservative and feel the newspaper they dropped was way, way too far to the left. As they say, perception is reality.

In the Information Age, one can find abundant confirmation bias. Echo chambers that inhibit critical thinking are the basis for 21st century political dialog. Hence the extreme polarization and resultant paralization of American self governance.

I am glad that I am nearing the end of a long life for I have no desire to live for an extended time within a world that is being recreated into something very alien to my upbringing. I feel so fortunate to have spent the majority of my life in a time of social safety net and a government that acknowledges the importance of the working class. I see unsettled times ahead and hope that my life reaches a natural end before despair is the dominant mood of our once great land.

I read actual papers and digital news summaries from a variety of sources and political views....

I am not at all concerned about conformation of my political views nor do I have any interest in sports reporting except for Gonzaga Men's Basketball. The truth matters and good place to search for it is to Google non partisan think tanks and news sources....and research them..

I have no intention of cancelling my morning newspaper as I would have to lay off the dog and that would break her heart.

I don't know about all this stuff about the rest of the world...
I just like to find a good source for updated sports box scores for the teams I like.

I like the CBS Sports app for my I-pad and phone. Reasonable box scores, recaps and even play by play. Multiple sports.

I am going to tell Rufus Woods that you don't even read the paper anymore......

When you subscribe to the Wenatchee World you get a complimentary subscription to the digital edition of the Washington Post....and yes I know all the history and bias of the Post and Bezos...

This was a fun read:
http://www.espn.com/mlb/columns/story?columnist=kurkjian_tim&id=5420098

I remember him talking about it on ESPN before. Tim Kurkjian has such a love for baseball and is a treasure trove of baseball trivia.

Could not wait for my Sporting News in the mail when I was a kid. Every box score from every game from the previous week. I could recreate each game by dissecting the boxes. It was fascinating.
