View Full Version : Twas the Night Before the FF

Twas the night before the FF, when all thro’ the G-U-B,
Not a poster was posting, not even Zagman in Philly;
Their beverages were frosting in the cooler with care,
In hopes that Coach Few soon would be there;
The posters were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of Jordan’s ‘Jumper’ danc’d in their heads,
And TexasZagFan in his ten gallon, and MickMick in his cap,
Had just settled their typing fingers for a short Friday nap
When out in Phoenix there arose such a clatter,
We sprang from our Laz-E-Boys to see what was the matter.
Away to the keyboard we flew like court mopper in the E8,
Poured ourselves a beverage, perhaps a Whiskey, just straight.
The dark was radiating from the closed roof of UoP stadium,
All could hardly look as if the court glowed like radium;
When, what to our wondering eyes should appear,
But a minature Zag jet, the Zags and an orange sphere,
With a gentleman driver, so lively and true,
We knew in a moment it must be Coach Few.
More rapid than buckets his players they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and call’d them by name:
“Now! Nigel, now! Jordan, now! Karno, and Rui,
“On! Zach, on! Josh, on! Johnathan and Tillie;
“To the top of the key and down the lane!
“Now make your shots, layups, and free throws all!”
As when the pressure is applied all by Martin’s boys,
The Zags heeded the Mamba’s words and played with great poise;
So up and down the court dribbling the Zags flew,
With a miniature Zag jet full of points - and Coaches Tommy, Donnie, and Michaelson too:
We saw the Zags were putting up points and the scoreboard began to glow;
The score went higher and the lead began to grow.
We drew in our heads, and leaned in toward the LCD,
Zags were in a huddle and Coach Few we could see:
He was dress’d all in suit, from his head to his foot,
And his tie was getting loose but not covered in soot;
A whiteboard and marker were flung into his hands,
And he look’d determined and the fans cheered from the stands:
His eyes –sharpened, narrow, focused, his hair neat and not funky,
There were no more curses, bad omens, jinxes, or that monkey;
Few discussed the play and guided the team as the dependable buoy,
Out from nowhere popped Heister to yell ‘That is so Fewy’;
The ref blew the whistle he held tight in his teeth,
And the players encircled Few tight like a wreath.
Few said “We will win. Just focus” and thought of Zag players past
Ammo, Calvary, Dickau, Santangelo, and Pendergraft
The Zags took the court for the remaining few minutes,
If they continued to play well, they would fly into the championship just like a linnet;
Nigel clapped his hands, Josh pointed at his head
Karno gave a thumbs up and JW mouthed, “All I see is red”.
GU Board posters grew nervous and worried about ghosts of the past
But the Zags were confident and upon these specters unleashed a wicked blast.
Zags took the ball down the court and passed it around
With the shot clocking ticking as Nigel pounded it into the ground.
Nigel moved left as Karno darted to set up a screen
Johnathan was gaining position down low and SC fans looked green.
Nigel darted right, pumped fake, and fired a pass towards the hoop
A second earlier Zach had leapt from the baseline for a classic alley oop.
Zach caught the pass and jammed it hard for two points
GU Board posters could hardly move as their bodies were on pinpoints.
The Zags had won, Coach Few packed up his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle, And away they all flew into the Zag jet and away, like the down of a thistle:
But we all heard Coach Few exclaim as the Zag jet flew out of sight
Happy Final Four Game Day Eve and to all GU Board posters we will see you on Monday night.

Now have Karno read it by the fire with his little elf playing air guitar for the finale.

Go directly to the Hall of Fame, don't pass go.

Nicely done.

Go directly to the Hall of Fame, don't pass go.

Nicely done.

Pun intended I bet.

Nicely played by both of y'all.

Go zags!
