Moreover, want it for the kid. SEC player of the year. He doesn't deserve this. No one does who worked their tail off to get to PHX

If it's "Pink Eye", it's contagious. No taint! Hope he gets better. Best get him to an infectious disease specialist. I'm sure they have.

Doc, one would assume he needs to be kept away from his teammates and coaches until hes not contagious, correct? Any further insights to precautions they would need to take and timelines?

I think it was a tongue in cheek statement. If it's pink eye, the whole team would have it.

The Mariners clubhouse had a nasty cold running through it last week. That's what I would GUESS!

I had pink eye a couple of weeks ago. Within one day of antibiotic eye drops the pink goes away and the condition stops being contagious. You must finish your prescription though. It's a non-issue for the basketball players so long as they have drops available.

Frank Martin doesn't sound like overly concerned about Thornwell and him being under the weather.

Lots depends on when it was discovered. If it's early on, drops help quite a bit. If it's in the middle or is an especially bad version, there's no telling how he'll respond to therapy. Like all infectious diseases, there's a beginning, middle and end.
I , for obvious reasons, cannot prognosticate without examining.

It's not a hard cure. Lots depends on the time frame when it's discovered and the virulence . Always a problem in the college age kids.

I have the feeling unless one of his legs are amputated, he will be out there and a menace to Gonzaga.

Have not heard pink eye.

He just decided to sit out morning media session to rest up.

Expected to practice this afternoon.

Very minor, as Coach Martin is sick too.

Dang. I mean I'll take a win any way we can at this point, but for a kid to not play in the biggest game of his life, or to feel like he is being restrained by something, that just sucks.

Per Frank Martin just now (precautionary to hold him out):

He had a little body temperature last night when we landed and he was a little better this morning," Martin said. "I told our trainers, 'Just feed him fluids and do what doctors do and let him rest.' He's our most intelligent player and I don't say that to demean our other guys, but he understands basketball at a high, high level. He does not need to be on the practice court to understand what we're doing."

He is a 22 yr old, finely tuned athletic machine. He will be 100% in 48 hrs.

He is already on the mend.

Apparently, he wanted to practice today....

Always beware the sick player....perhaps it relaxes them ?....Baylor played Gonzaga with a virus and a fever reported to be at 103... couldn't practice, warmed up in his sweats and a towel around his neck.... threw up at nearly every time out....also threw up about 50 points and 20 rebounds ....it s a wonderful thing to be young...

Sorry everyone, I looked up and down and didn't see a thread, must have missed it. Glad others started one.

Personally, I don't want the young man ill for the biggest game of his life, but I also don't like it bc ever since MJ almost rose from the dead to beat the Jazz, there seems to be a rule/history of sick guys coming and playing the game of their lives.

Karno was sick in Vegas and the first weekend. Doesn't sound like a big deal. Here's hoping he gets better and misses every shot he takes including free-throws. :)

This.

None issue. Nothing to see here. Karno was really sick, missed some practices, but not a single minute of game time.

All reports via SC message boards is its very minor and already feeling way better.

Some of his teammates even said he was just tired and rundown is all...

Gamecock fan here and I would first like to thank ya'll for all the kind words. According to the Rivals site Tharnwell had a small fever when they landed and sat out of practice today as a precaution. Hopefully that's all it is because if we are going to have a chance it will be with him on the court.

Ordinarily I would agree that a young player of his caliber will bounce back just fine and will be ready to play on Saturday. I still believe this to be the case but I fear that the missed practice is a bigger deal than it would ordinarily be. Playing basketball in a football arena with the weird back drop is something the players will need to adjust to. The more reps a player has on these hoops with the deep backdrop the better.

I'm sure he'll play and his health won't be an issue (except for with the media folk).

Is it Saturday yet? Let's get this game on!

I agree but Thornwell is this teams leader and as long as he is on the court we are a better team. I just pray that it doesn't spread.

This kind of dove tails from the thread I put up about Gonzaga and its preparedness. Your guys will have it figured out and will be ready, I'm confident of that. This isn't their first rodeo :)

Phoenix elevation is under 1100 feet, so that isn't the problem. Of course, in the plane on the way out to Phoenix it was closer to 40,000 feet.

Actually around 5-6000 on the way out to Phoenix.Time of useful consciousness at 40,000 ft is 8-12 seconds depending on your health:)

Are you saying the Gamecocks rode a frickin' bus all the way to Phoenix? Even then, hard to find elevations over 5000 unless you go out of your way.
