The draft class this year was considered to be one of the best in the past quarter century. And indeed, if you go to any reputable mock list, 2017 is flooded with freshmen. And many of them will be superb, all star caliber players. But it is odd that despite all that, not a single team - not even North Carolina - has a one and done player. There are some draft picks, but they are upperclassmen. Of course Gonzaga doesn't have a single player on the 2017 mock list at draftexpress.com. However, there are some players on all four teams who will, with continued development, likely get picked in 2018. And in Zach's case, possibly at the lottery level. Anyway, here is an article that talks about the subject. The writer tends to be a BCS snob, but he behaves himself in this article.

North Carolina goes after all the same kids that sign w/ Duke and Kentucky, they've just whiffed on all the one and doners for years. It's actually worked out in their favor. They still get some McDonald's AA level players, but they aren't good enough to jump early so hang around for at least 3 years. It's allowed them to have upperclassmen dominated teams 2 years in a row that still had plenty of talent. Duke hit pay dirt in '15 but for the most part playing the one and done lottery hasn't worked out well for them. Nobody has had more success w/ it than Kentucky but even then Calipari only has 1 Title since he's been at UK.

ESPN's Chad Ford just posted this yesterday, following NCAA tourney performance:

Zach Collins, C, freshman, Gonzaga

Collins had an unusually quit game versus West Virginia, scoring just one point and grabbing four boards. He perked up a bit versus Xavier on Saturday with six points, six boards and a block in 13 minutes of play.

Scouts aren't expecting him to dominate coming off the bench for Gonzaga. It's the upside -- size, athleticism, offensive and defensive versatility -- that are appealing. He remains a likely late lottery pick with still another game or two to go this season.

Still considered a Top-15 pick by Ford and his goons.

I'm looking forward to Zach having a breakout game (or two) this weekend...may he vault up the list like Sabonis!
