UCLA accepts California's travel ban, except when it interferes with postseason play:

Butler over NC - yes (I hope it will happen). Cocks over Baylor - yes (I think it will happen). Badgers over Florida - yes (I know it will happen - if the right Badgers team shows up). UCLA / Kentucky - is there any way they can both lose?

Is it just me, or does Frank Martin look like the meanest, nastiest coach in the business? I mean, he has a look that makes Bob Knight look like the Pillsbury dough boy.

He gets results, but my goodness.

Haaa. Mafia posture/attitude is what he reminds me. But very successful

Silva of South Carolina is giving a clinic on baseline help defense. Tremendous job inside on the Baylor big men.

Very impressive.

Watch Silva (number 30) play defense.

UNC shooting over 50%, and on their 16 misses they have 6 o boards to Butler's 10 d boards. bad recipe there for Butler

South Carolina defense is the most fundamentally sound I have seen this season.

Agreed. That zone of theirs. Like a well-oiled machine.

ETA: Baylor I've noticed all season is not exactly a team with great BB IQ either. Recipe for upset.

So, North Carolina looks kinda' good - though I've just tuned in. I suppose it can be that Butler is beyond bad.

And So.Ca. doing a little ass-kicking on a group that couldn't possibly deserve it more (the school, not necessarily the staff/players).

bballbeachbum
03-24-2017, 05:59 PM
Butler doing better on the o board battle this half and actually have a 5-3 advantage, UNC still over 50% from the floor tho on 20 assists for 28 makes

Duane Notice was desperate to be a Zag, he wanted to follow his best friend Pangos to Spokane, but the offer never came. I wonder if he would be starting for us right now.

Kansas looks really good and Carolina looks pretty good too. They could be on a collision course in a National semi-final. Roy cannot coach against his former team, I think they've lost to them 3 times in the Tourney (definitely at least twice). Of course the Kentucky/UCLA winner is up next in the Regional Final, but I bet Heels fans are already starting to get nervous about facing the Jayhawks again.

Let me tell you...that alternative take on the handshake line will be one of the living memories of this tournament. It actually hand an element of authenticity to it. The South Carolina coaches asked their players to calm down their celebration and to enter that circle at mid-court.

Percentages of 39, 33 and 68, um, not likely. We got that covered already.

What happened to Wisconsin? The SEC is looking to get 3 in the E8 and the Big 10-14 could have zero.

seacatfan
03-24-2017, 08:33 PM
Maybe the SEC is a lot better than they were given credit for? Plenty of time left in both these games but if it ends up w/ 3 of the Elite 8 from the SEC, that will be a bit eye opening.

If the Zags can get by X the winner of So Carolina and Florida would be tough. Florida needs to finish off the Badgers first of course. Lots of time left.

Ucla plays no defense, at all. It's crazy. Even Ball, who you think might care (B Alford knows he is beat 95% of the time so he doesn't try) doesn't even put his body on the other guy.

Ball is a piece of work - just watched him half-heartedly defend a Kentucky inbound after UCLA scored then not even other to run down the court at the 1:15 mark.

Sometimes hiring the "big name" doesn't always pan out, huh? Mike White has done a great job with FLA. A lot of teams would have folded when Egbunu went down.

And every time that team wins, it further legitimizes Gonzaga's position in this tourney. They beat FLA on a neutral floor all full strength about 100 miles from their campus. No fluke plays, no bad calls, no buzzer beater shot.

If GU can win tomorrow, despite the familiarity factor, part of me wants the Gators to win on Sunday. Then the snobs have less strength in saying that (if GU beats XU) 1) the Zags beat NW due to a blown call 2) they were thoroughly beaten by WVU but won on a fortunate three that was tipped by the defender 3) They never had to play Arizona with Trier and PJC.

I'm telling you, the trolls will use these things to delegitimize Gonzaga's final four run if they're fortunate to beat XU tomorrow. A FLA final four appearance quiets them a bit.

BTW - this is why I hate the NBA's rule that allows you to advance the ball to midcourt. It ruins the excitement that comes with plays like tonight. I am sorry, but I am far less excited about some 10 foot jumper that LeBron hits coming out of a TO on a designed play that was drawn up by a coach. The most famous shot in NCAA history....Christian Laettner's shot in the greatest college game ever played....never would have happened if Duke were allowed the advance the ball. Same with last year's 3 point shot to win the title. I realize others feel differently, but this is one area where college has it right. It creates more excitement for the fans and more amazing, legendary plays.

its why I watch college basketball, and almost never watch the NBA (...that and perhaps I'm still just a little pissed about the Sonics leaving Seattle ...)
