Aren't most of the refs in the tourney regular power 5 guys??

Asking those of you who have many years of Zag-following experience.

The really talented officials work multiple leagues, as illustrated in this bio of Dick Cartmell, who lives in the Tri Cities area and has been seen frequently in WCC gyms, as well as others.

Cartmell began his 32-year college officiating career in 1984 with the Big Sky Conference. He has worked in 24 NCAA Tournaments, including five Final Fours (Championship game in 2002, 2003, 2004, semi-final game in 2006 & 2007), and several NIT games throughout his storied career. He has officiated 30 conference tournament championship games over a 28-year span. Currently, he officiates in the Big West, Mountain West, Pac-12, WAC and the West Coast Conference.

Not sure how many of the zebras in the Big Dance come primarily from Power 5 conferences. A 2011 article on NCAA tourney officials that touches on some aspects of selection is here:

Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks a bunch!!!!!!!!! I hope many board contributors read the NYTimes article. Might have an impact on opinions.

Thanks again for taking the time to help a friend.

I don't know exactly how they choose the refs, but Stevie Wonder and Ronnie Milsap could do a better job than some of the ones that are chosen.

There is zero favor curried toward the Power 5. The officiating pairings are done randomly, to assure that expertise is spread equally. Below is picture just before the games were assigned to each crew.
