Once again, Gonzaga is the school that keeps on giving!!! I've told many people about my 'story' (basically, being a random guy from Missouri who happens to be a DIE-HARD zags fan. And how I can't stand Mizzou), and many people will question why my loyalty to GU is so strong, and why I despise Mizzou SO SO MUCH, and bla bla bla. To give a quick refresher, when I was 11 or 12, I went to a Mizzou Tigers basketball game. After the game, I waited for like 30 minutes to try and get some autographs, and I can remember how excited I was when I saw one of the players walking out and heading right towards me! As he approached, I held my program and pen out to him, and he didn't even look my direction as he brushed his hand toward me (in a shoo-ing motion, much like you'd do to a fly). I remember being crushed, and trying not to let my parents see that I was crying when we were driving home. My disdain for Mizzou only grew as I got older, when that punk, and JOKE of a man, Ricky Clemens physically assaulted a friend of mine that I graduated with. Add in the multiple cheating allegations, recruiting violations, and bla bla bla. Who COULD like Mizzou??

Anyways, turn to my experiences with Gonzaga. It's incredible how EVERY time I go to a game, I have the most incredible stories to tell afterwards. The fans are all so friendly. It is HONESTLY more like a family than a group of fans! I love it. I feel like I'm part of something much bigger than just a bunch of hoops fans. Not only that, but when I stayed after the game and hung near the team bus on Tuesday night to get autographs and pics of the players with Woohoo Jr, every player and every coach was MORE than happy to oblige. And on top of that, I kid you not, EVERY.SINGLE.PLAYER said 'yes sir, no sir' to me when I was asking them questions. The most polite, congenial group you could ever imagine. They were such amazing examples to Woohoo Jr. He left being more in love and more excited about Gonzaga and basketball than ever before.

Add in there all of the amazing posters that stopped Woohoo Jr. and I to tell us they voted for his picture to win, and that they appreciated my drawings/humor on the forum. It was just such an incredible experience. I met at least 15 posters over the course of the 5 days. ZaGranny gave me a small bag filled with zags stuff, including 2 Gonzaga basketball t-shirts for Woohoo Jr. and LittlerWoohooJr. (and the perfect sizes to boot!! Thanks ZaGranny). On the final night, I hung out briefly with Bob Finn (and Mrs. Finn) and their gang, and they absolutely made Woohoo Jr's night by filling up an entire GU cinch sack with cool zags gear, and asking him all about his Gonzaga experience from the weekend. It truly made him feel very special. On our flight home, he just kept talking about how NICE zags fans are. I love that in his very short zags fandom, he's already picked up on what is so special with this school. It's so rewarding to be a zags fan, even to some random fans from Missouri who don't even have a real connection to GU! I feel very lucky to be a part of such an amazing fan base, and be able to follow such an AWESOME team of great young men, all led by a coaching staff that seems to know just the perfect mixture of teaching these boys about basketball and life all at the same time. I couldn't be more proud to be a zag.

WHAT...A...TRIP...

Now, for the pictures!

If you're ever in Vegas, and have the opportunity to visit Red Rock Canyon, DO IT. It's amazing.

Collins was super nice. I asked him if he had a lot of family and friends at the game, and he said he did. I bet that was great for him.

I told JWIII that I loved the fact that he LEFT Mizzou, and is now a zag. It was pretty cool talking to him briefly about it. He was very polite and great to talk to.

Karnowski told Woohoo Jr. that he remembered him from Nashville. Whether that's true or not, haha, I don't know, but it made Woohoo Jr's weekend I think.

I was pretty pumped to have gotten this pic.

Out of EVERYONE, Woohoo Jr and told me he wanted a pic with Mark Few more than anything. Of course, Coach was happy to oblige and was very nice, thanking us for coming out to support the team. Woohoo Jr. asked him if he would please coach for 10 more years so he could come play PG for him (He's been talking about that for a few weeks now, and I thought it was hilarious that he actually asked him that). Coach chuckled and said "Oh I don't know, who knows. Somebody will be here though". I thought that was kinda funny.

Love this pic right here. We printed out the 'winning' announcement from the contest. We got every player and every coach to sign it. Can't wait to get this framed and put it on display!!

Nope. Been a die hard fan since 2000, and I've only ever stepped foot on campus one time...

Great pics, WooHoo!

Did Jr. get any phone #'s from the cheerleader's?

Though he's not a "kid" anymore, have interacted just a little with Pendo over the years (graduated the same year as my daughter; had him in some classes & said he was pretty smart). Great kid! And yeah, some DNA tests may be in order.

Glad you all enjoyed your trip.

Needless to say, this was the trip of a lifetime (that's like the 4th time that, because of Gonzaga or a Gonzaga fan, I have had the 'trip of a lifetime' haha!). I know that Woohoo Jr. and I will remember this trip for the REST OF OUR LIVES!!!

And I started asking the cheerleaders about their phone numbers when they started yelling for security. I tried to blame it on the goat.

Sorry I didn't see you. We have this in common, I have never set foot on the campus either. Went in the Navy and attended school all over, but I grew up just outside of Creswell and attended church where Mark Few's Dad was the Pastor. His Dad baptized me, officiated at my sisters wedding, conducted funeral services for my Mom, Grandmother, Aunts, and Uncles. Mark wouldn't know me from Adam as we were about six years difference in age (he is younger) but I enjoy visiting with his parents when we are at the tournament. They are two of the nicest people you could ever know.

Thanks for sharing the pictures and narrative of your adventure. Sorry we didn't join you for disc golf... it was so windy that I figured it was a "no go". We have hiked through Red Rocks four times on different WCC trips and agree it is awesome. This year we did "Top Golf" and definitely give it a thumbs up.

Glad to see WooHoo Jr.had such a great time and that the players/coaches were so generous with their time.

Make sure you e-mail Julie McCulloh to have WooHoo Jr. put on her mailing list as a "future Zag". I called her during my oldest's sophomore year of high school to let her know she (my daughter) was thinking of attending GU. Julie and Thayne were both at GU the same time as I was so she took the time to send a personal letter to my daughter encouraging her to follow her parents footsteps by attending GU. It is that kind of special attention that sets GU apart form most other schools.

Thanks again for sharing your adventures ... GO ZAGS!

Whoohoo I honestly can't stand mizzou either but now after hearing your story it makes me extremely angry at them.

Go zags! Honestly our story is pretty similar in how we became fans (minus the games part) but I can proudly say we are part of the GU family. No matter what happens in the tourneys or seasons we always have each other. That's what I cherish most.

Go zags!

Funny story, woohoo. I was at the last two games in Vegas and walked right past you guys. I told my wife, "I think that's WooHoo!" She said, "who the hell is that?" I told her it involved a goat named Francis and then it got weird.

Yeah, I know what you mean buddy. I'm not so naive as to think we have a squeaky clean program. I think it's just that I have personal experiences with Mizzou that affected me. I have friends who have nothing but good to say about Mizzou.
