The team was in a funk after BYU.

Looks like they snapped out of it in a big way.

This team goes nowhere unless Goss is driving the bus at crunch time.

Great experience for this team. Long wait til Selection Sunday. I like where Zags are right now. They've got their mojo back!!

Karno was in for 35 minutes! I'm pretty sure that's his most time this season, and it's a lot of time for the big guy. Did it though and he did it well. NWG and Karno.......beautiful combination, one-two punch.

They took over when SMC cut it to a 5-point game. Wow, just wow. This team is primed; let's hope the week's rest before the NCAA helps with the injuries and we don't get rusty.

Also, Karno makes lay up, misses free throw, Collins with great rebound and put back, Goss with 3 pointer. 7 point swing, 34 seconds. Nice!

It is so easy for me to focus on letting teams back in, and then focus on being tough enough to push it right back.

But, without that first half, when we clicked so well and kept them missing shots, we don't win. So, I have to remember that. The first half counts the same as the 2nd.

Great experience for this team. Long wait til Selection Sunday. I like where Zags are right now. They've got their mojo back!!

It was great to see them fight back after the Gaels closed it ti 5 in the 2nd half. The Zags struck back with a flurry of punches and ended it with a knock-out punch. In case you didn't figure out the knock out punch. It's not a what. It's a who. NWG. i don't care what others say. He's first team ALL AMERICAN to me. AND KARNOWSKI IS 2ND.

God, I loved how the Zags fought back. AND i really liked how St Mary's fought back the 2nd half. I MUST ADMIT that I was getting worried. I had to work pretty hard for awhile to tame my emotions and tongue. And I NEVER stopped believing, not even for more than 10 seconds. But heck, that's how a game in the finals of your conference tournament should be. Basketball is not for the weak hearted.

i really like to see the ball in William-Goss's hands at the end of games like this. He can really take over a game, and he did it again tonight. It was absolutely beautiful, i'M SURE WE WERE ALL SITTIN ON OUR HANDS WAITING FOR HIM TO DO IT. And now we're all smiling again. I remember how we wondered at the beginning of the year if the Zags had a go-to man at the end of close games. It took a long time for it to happen, and for him to grow into that role. It's hard for me to not be confident going into the NCAA National tournament with him leading this team. And he has one hell of a band brothers fighting alongside of him with Mt Karno leading them. He too was outstanding tonight, and was as tough as I've ever seen him. I don't think he has ever blocked so many shots. I just wish Jazz could cut him some slack. Maybe when we make it to the Final Four he will.

PS GREAT defense tonight, especially in the 1st half, and the last 7 minutes of the game.

Go Zaggs!!!

Wow! What a game to be at! Wow!
That was great. One of the best games I've ever been too. The crowd really got into it. I sure hope it looked like that on TV. People were on their feet again and again both for D and O actions. Zag D held strong and some spiffy O squashed SMC's comeback bid. Just plain WOW! While outside the Arena waiting for our Uber driver Mark Few's Pop went by to get on their bus. He was one happy looking camper!
I really like SMC. They did what they could to fight the Zags but just could not match the intensity of Zag D or O. SMC will do well in the NCAAs. I don't care where the Zags play or what seed they are. They're going to be damn hard to beat by anyone at any location should they bring that much heat again. Wow! I'm still buzzing from that game!

* Melson stepped up and hit critical shots
* The defense was stellar
* Perkins showed confidence and played really well
* Williams was his usual self
* Poor Collins always seems to suck up fouls, so Karno doesn't get them called on him
* Williams-Goss is so game changing with the ball in his hands
* Karno is the man

Overall, maybe. When healthy I think Heyvelt was the best, he was so quick off the weak side. He completely annihilated Hansbrough. Turiaf was fantastic too. Sacre was no slouch. Heytvelt and Turiaf especially were much better in transition D.

Where was that post defense f.g % from last cpl years ago where karno was #1. Have they ever? He isn't a shot blocker like turiaf or heytvelt. But he clogs the lane and is strong as a ox.

I've been to plenty of these 1st and 2nd round games over the past 20 years. Unless you have a favorite, the normal "fan" roots for the underdog, especially if they keep it close or when they make a run during the game. The problem is when the underdog team pulls the upset, you have to witness a second round game 2 days later that typically turns in to quite the beating...no fun to sit through

Have to echo Zagger's comments on the crowd. Place was 90% Zag fans. And they were into the game. Much more than most home games (with the exception of the students). It was basically a bigger home game for the Zags. So, so fun!!

Yes! He's our traffic cop, directing traffic on both O and D. Just one of the many things he does to help the Zag's win that don't show up in the stats. Haven't posted my main Karno post for some time, so this provides the perfect opportunity to post it again; No other player in D-1 basketball is as valuable to his team IN SO MANY DIFFERENT WAYS than Karno.

If there were an award for that, one that counted everything rather than just stats...........We'll there isn't, but I'm giving it to him anyway. God, I'm going to miss him!

I've been to Vegas four times now for Zag games. Unless my memory is failing me last night's was the most the fans got into it. Not to take away from past Zag games in the Orleans Arena. They've all had good fan support. Last night's just seemed to be a cut above the rest. You could tell that the team was putting in their best - and then some. The crowd was just plain inspired on both the O efforts and D efforts. In fact, maybe that was the difference - the D. I'm sure I've not seen such good all around D by the Zags as this season's. It's kinda like having 3-5 Mike Harts out there last night (kinda, as Mike Hart was Mike Hart .... his hustle alone was worth the price of admission).

Went thru the ESPN site to check Shem's career stats. Assuming they're accurate, he only exceeded 35 minutes 1 time in his career; that OT loss down @ Arizona. Played 36 minutes.

I was at the game last night and (as usual) complaining through my Zag-colored glasses about all of the fouls on us vs. no fouls in the same situations for them. On my flight back to Oakland today, I sat next to a couple who attended all of the games and whose daughter didn't play for, but had some connection to the girl's team, so they are big St Mary's supporters and go to all of the games. We talked about last night's game and they (mostly the wife) couldn't stop complaining about how Gonzaga "gets all of the calls because they're Gonzaga", "shouldn't be allowed to bring in so many transfers" (they likened it to working around the rules somehow) and how unfair it was to have to play in a championship game that is "supposed to be a neutral site, but had so many Gonzaga fans it was ridiculous". The wife also went on to comment that "there's no way all of those fans are from Spokane - there would be no one left in town! The school or ESPN must pay people from the casinos to come in and cheer for them." I gave her the benefit of the doubt and assumed she was joking about that last one. I don't think either one of them noticed my brand new 2017 Champions shirt (that I stood in line for last night, only to be told they were sold out and to come back in a couple of hours, so I went and played a little blackjack - the shirt was priced at $32, but an argument could be made that it actually cost me $232.) and they just assumed I was a St Mary's fan because I was flying to Oakland.

Anyway, it made for an entertaining flight back.

Haven't watched a replay all year until tonight. Big time D in 1st half. And from 9:02 for about 5-6 minutes in the 2nd half what a show by Karno and NWG. At 9:02 Karno blocks a Narr lay in FROM BeHIND keeping the lead at seven. NWG is fouled and makes 2. Both just super after that with some nice plays by others.

Also took note that during SMC's run we still made I think 4 buckets that if all had not been made really would put us in some deeper water.

Williams is special. Has to be. I look at his stat line and think, he had how many points and boards? That can't be right!

I believe that this is Karnowski's natural state of mind when asked to be a leader. He played like that in a national team against Pau Gasol, Rudy Gobert and other great players in the past. And that was two years ago, when Shem was still developing a couple of moves.

This tournament will be huge for Gonzaga. I bet some people will be shocked how good Karnowski can be whilst asked to be the focal point of the offense (I mean all those doubters on Twitter). There is going to be at least one game when Shem will - quite literally - possess the ball and the opposing team's dignity. It's his last couple of games as Zag, the winningest player in the history of both organization and the entire NCAA. I believe he will play like never before and this last performance was just an introduction to it.

Nigel and Przemek have the same mindset: win-that-damn-thing. I keep my fingers crossed for huge games for both of them, because I know they will win it. All the supporting crew will do their best but it's on NWG and Shem to make it happen.

This is a reason why I would like to see Florida State in the Dance. Plus, they haven't been world beaters away from home.

ETA: I may be biased, but I have to believe several of the NBA GM's in the audience took notes on Shem's mobility and ability to run the court. I'd like to see Draymond Green attempt to move Shem off his block when he gets the ball.
