One more photo that used to float around on the board a few years back, but still love remembering the gems that GU got, and the peers they were recognized with:

Beal and Mc Adoo are both currently on NBA rosters and Pontika plays professionally in Turkey.

Throwback Thursday, right?

Ponitka is exceptionally good. He could have been a part of the college basketball back in a days but he chose to play professionally in Poland/Belgium. He is able to play in NBA one day - stereotypical European player who likes to pass, plays hard defense and shoot whenever needed. Much better explosiveness than his body structure looks like, great rebounder and phenomenal team player.

[PONITKA AT 1:20]

He is one of the best players in one of the 3 best leagues worldwide (NBA, Spain, Turkey) but I have a feeling that if he would be more selfish he could have been in the NBA already. In this respect he is very much like Shem - he is willing to pass, defend, cut the lines etc.; basically to do everything for a team. In NBA sometimes you just have to be selfish and play for yourself, which is sooo annoying.

Anyway - great find :) remember watching every game of this team. Such a fun!
