Hudson: A hard fought 74-64 win in Moraga to move to 26-0. A game of runs, the Zags out early, SMC tied it up, the Zags had another run, Landale had a 6 point run to close the half. I think Hudson said GU did not have a field goal in the last 8 minutes of the game. Karnowski leads with 19, Williams 17, NWG 14 and Melson with a quiet 12 ( I didn't realize that)! GU outrebounds SMC 33-31, Williams and Karnowski with 9. Landale leading scorer of game with 24, but only Gael in double figures. It was a duel of inside players as Karnowski and Landale dominated, much different that at the Kennel but Landale didn't get a lot of offensive help. GU holds Gaels to 40.7% from the floor, first team to shoot over 40% in the last eleven games. GU shoots 55%. GU's 11th win in last 13 games vs. SMC. Karnowki scored 10 of first 12 for Zags on a variety of moves. GU out 19-9, but SMC came back to tie at 23. GU out 26-23, there were 4 ties but only one lead change. Last tie at 23. JW3 also big for Zags with 17 and 9, did it on both ends of the court.

Michaelson: Our big guys carried us in the first half, Karnowski, Collins and JW3 really carried us in the first half while NWG was on the bench with 2 fouls. Melson was huge for us, he never ever turns the ball over. It was nice to be challenged and we responded. We just kind of kept it in th 9-14 point range in the second half. Our offense was bad in the second half as was our free throw shooting but our defense carried us. Now we have 3 of 4 at home and will be a challenge. Pacific played us as tough as anybody, USF in the upper third of the conference. It won't be easy. But we opened up a bit of a lead in the conference and now we want to see if we can finish this thing off.

Hudson and Santnagelo: The bulldogs really tried to get out and run in the first half and it really didn't look like SMC wanted to slow the pace much of the time. Jordan Matthews played 30 minutes and really did a nice job on Hermanson, especially in the first half. An uncharacteristic offensive line for Mathews. Hudson repeated no field goals in the last 8:10 and still SMC couldn't close down. Also noted was most figured Naar and Rajon would not have repeat offensive lines at SMC like they did in the Kennel but it was close. Combined they were 6-21. Hudson noted on the one floater Naar tried late in the second half he wasn't even close, noting the Zags really didn't let him get comfortable all evening. Also SMC with 11 assists which is actually low for them in the style of game they like to play. SMC had 12 more shots from the floor than GU but the Zags had 2 more field goals. Melson led the guard in minutes played tonight 4-5 from the floor, 2-2 from three, 2 rebounds and an assist and no turnovers. SMC got 9 offensive rebounds that led to only 11 points. Great stuff from the Zags tonight as they move to 26-0 and 14-0 in the WCC. Now two home games this week.

Melson: It was really fun out here, with college gameday. It was the loudest if has ever been here, at least since I've been here. They are the pick and roll maestro's we really had to defend the pick and roll, JW3 was great. Basketball is a game of runs and on the road there are lot of runs a team has to respond to and we responded to all of them. Santangelo noted what has really changed for Silas is his body language. He has really embraced his role and defends as well as anyone on the team.

Nice job 116! We really did kind of leave the gate open at the end, but held them off defensively. Those floaters are tough shots.

"Basketball is a game of runs"

That knowledge is the only thing that keeps me from having a heart attack sometimes.

+1.

He's quickly becoming my favorite Zag. He's definitely embracing that role that Dranginis, Hart, Pendo, and others took.
