Gonzaga is the second #1 seed. Villanova is the 1st.
Oregon is the #2 seed in the West. Lunardi has Virgina in the West Region as well as a 4 seed.

If the Zags are to make it to the FINAL 4 the way to make that happen is for them to secure the #1 seed in the West. Let's make those Blue Bloods travel out west to play us in San Jose.

Villanova got lucky against UVA, otherwise Zags should be overall #1 for sure.
Either way, I still think Zags better than Nova right now. No, i am not at all a homer.

On his Insider Page, he addresses the 2/11 Selection Committee 'reveal' of the top 16 teams : http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/insider/story/_/id/18619891/behind-bracket-ncaa-tournament-selection-committee-reveal-written-pencil

On Saturday, the college basketball world will stop at 12:30 p.m. ET as NCAA men's basketball selection committee chair Mark Hollis will give a sneak preview of Selection Sunday four weeks hence. Hollis and the committee are conducting the first-ever "reveal" of the bracket's top 16 teams as of Feb. 11.

Officially, I think this is great buzz for the tournament and the committee. Unofficially, I think it is the proverbial much ado about nothing.

I suspect the reveal will have Villanova as the # 1 overall seed, Zags a #1 but not THE # 1. East Coast bias, 'Nova is the defending National Champs, and all that rot. . .I don't agree with that thinking but I think it could happen.
If it does, it will give us one more thing to discuss prior to the SMC game that afternoon. OTOH, if GU is THE #1, there will be much rejoicing and someone will figure out a way to monetize the fact with yet another T-shirt.

Beat LMU.

Top seed in the whole tournament gets to pick its Pod. I would think we'd pick SLC - would be nice to vanquish some demons.

Versus #16 seed WEBER ST??!?!?!? They are a 40 minute drive from campus to Salt Lake. I would be so pissed! They better not!

If we can handle BYU in Provo, we can handle Weber St.

After further research, I've changed my mind. Weber's played only 4 games against the RPI top 150...they've lost 3 of them. Bring'em on!

What makes SLC a better site over Sacramento?

Spokane elevation is roughly 2300. Salt Lake is roughly 4200. Eugene is roughly 430. Deep teams or teams from towns with higher elevation definitely have an advantage.

As evidenced by 2016, 2011, and any time we've beaten BYU at Provo, elevation does not scare me at all. It should however scare the major teams from the east coast

Yes and ZionZag, (guardian of the Cottonwood Canyons), is holding center court tickets for Thurs.....Thanks doggy1....everyone should know the obvious as well as a very easy flight from Spokaloo and direct flights from more cities than to Sac....4200 feat will not bother the best team in the USA. I did not see much heavy breathing in Provo last week.

Glad to see I'm not the only one that noticed this! I'm confident Zags can handle Weber State anywhere they play but that would be a pretty cruel matchup. Hardly the "ease into the tournament" a #1 seed should enjoy.

This year's Zags can beat any and all of them. The could run the table for a perfect season. Doesn't mean those things will happen. Put yourselves in the selection committee's position; see my post "How far . . ."

If the Zags get the top #1 seed they get to choose which pod they want to be in.

So by my reckoning, as things stand now the Zags have already beaten a 2 (Arizona), 3 (Florida), 6 (St Marys), 7 (Iowa St) and a bubble team (Tennessee). Seems like a pretty solid resume to me. Too lazy to compare it to the others being considered for the top 1 seed.
