I've gotta think 2017 wins but I'm with the article. It's close

Respectively suggest that this is not the best time to do this comparison. We can do it later when all the results and stats are in. Let's just back this bunch as the best in the nation and give them all the support we can. Let's just love 'um like your dog loves you.......unquestionably!

2013:

kenpom overall: 5
defense: 30

2017:

kenpom overall: 1

offense: 7
adjusted SoS: 185

The 2017 defense would be too much. Mike Hart's offensive rebounding would keep it close until crunch time. David Stockton, Kevin Pangos, and Gary Bell would drown in a sea of long arms. Narrow passing lanes would be the countermeasure for Pangos ball distribution.

Karno would neutralize KO. The 2017 guards can all shoot so Hart and GBJ couldn't guard all three. Then when GBJ broke his hand right before half time, 2017 would pull away for the win due to superior depth.

I loved Olynyk but do you guys seriously think that he would overplay Karnowski?

People tend to act like Kelly was unbeatable. He was one of the most efficient scorers in the college back then and his range played huge role in Zags success. But he would have to face arguably the best defensive center in the league who would wear him down. Karnowski isn't bad at defending perimeter and he closes the paint. On defense Kelly would have to face .600+ efficiency on baby hooks and a mass that he wouldn't handle. Plus elite-level passing.
Kelly had usage as high as 30, Shem 25. The difference is huge and with as many touches and as many minutes Karnowski would probably average almost identical offensive numbers (!). Shem plays ca 4.5mpg less than Kelly in 2013, averages 12.5 vs Kelly's 17.8. 4.5 mpg would give Karnowski ca 15.1ppg. And, statistically, Karnowski would be almost identical in every other category except rebounding (slightly higher efficiency for Kelly). Plus in those 4.5mpg Karnowski would have 0.5 assists more giving him a total of 2.8 apg vs. Kelly's 1.7.
Kelly also averaged 2.4 turnovers per game, whilst Przemek has 1.3 (up to ca. 1.4-1.5 in those additional minutes).

Plus one huge factor. Przemek tends to play better against better competition.

I would love to see their match-up. That would be huuuuuge game.

I said Karno would neutralize him but there is a good chance that KO and EH would foul him out. They were both exceptional at getting opposing players in compromising positions and taking advantage.

Harris vs. JWIII would be entertaining.

Who knows, but it would be a fun game.

This 2017 team would be well served to take a lesson from the 2013 team that crashed and burned hard in SLC.

2017's defense and depth makes this matchup a bit lopsided.

I loved that 2013 team... but... I'd put money on 2017s... but it'd be a tight game.

That's the first matchup I thought of! Very cool to consider.

I agree. Feels a little bit, well, treasonous.

2017. This team is a nightmare to coach against.

Who is uptight?

2013 was uptight. It showed in tourney game #1 and its why it said this years zag team(2017) isn't apologizing for being #1 like 2013 did.
Its way too soon for me to say who would win. I'd like to see how 2017 team reacts in march before I say who.

Methinks we'll have an indication tomorrow night. It will be our toughest road game to date.

With the SMC game being moved to primetime I'm now way more worried about it than if it was later in the night. Not helping any

Right and this is why I don't rate a squad til year is over. And that makes its silly to some as I'm strange like that lol. If this team goes 39-0, well is their a question? If this teams crashes out...well?

But it is good comparisons as both #1

I believe the 2013 bench, led by Rem, got some national attention for their antics - so they would beat this team's bench hands down in that department!

Well if you ask that question, you can't ignore the problem of which team gets Coach Few.

Or since it's totally hypothetical it would be 2013 Shem vs. 2017 Shem and same deal for coaching staff.

Who gets Shem? Who gets Rem? One big question and one little question that needs to be answered.

This year's team is more balanced offensively, and defends better. KO/Harris/Pangos all had poor offensive games v Wichita (and credit their defense for that), and imo that played as big a part in that game as their hot shooting late. This team can score from 1 thru 8, and I don't think they lose that game.

The depth of this year's team would be too much for the 2013 squad to overcome. KO and Elias formed a potent frontcourt, yet Karnowski and Williams get the edge. Then there's the other 7' and 6'10" guys coming off the bench. I'm not even sure if they could stay within 10 points.

I'll take a Senior led Rem team anyday over a Freshman led Rem team.
