Round one of the Zags and Pacific. Short turnaround (which will be the case going forward throughout the remainder of the regular season). I was a bit slowed with the flu yesterday... I will make sure to post the predictions thread directly after posting all Thursday games prediction results going forward. As always... thoughts and predictions... have at it boys and girls!

Why are the Zags playing at UoP? It is normally 2 at home or 2 on the road. I can't remember a Thursday home game followed by a Saturday game in Cali. I'm sure there's a reason. Anyone know what it is?

The Spokesman article explained the desire not to play pre-Christmas conference games. I get that. Not sure it explains the abandonment of the "travel partner" format. Maybe I'm missing something, but doesn't this change result in higher travel costs and add complexities in lodging accommodations?

My prediction:

Zags 80
UOP 66

Zags get off to sluggish start, bag the "W" and move on.

Well, went to the game last night and the Zags looked excellent on occasion and not-so-hot on others. Mid-range jumpers by Pep we're pretty darn open at times. I'm really surprised it was a 30 point spread. Guessing the flu others have mentioned elsewhere on the forum and/or too much good cooking of late. I expect the Zags to rebound a bit. Pacific just lost to Portland. I think I'll go with the same score as last night:

Zags 92
Pacific 62

I hope to see an 'on fire' Zags first half. I think coach likely had a few 'motivational discussions' with the team. The Zags also seem to thrive a bit in games away from home. I also hope to see more great moves by Melson. We got to McCarthy at 5 to watch the teams practice and warm up a bit. I watched Melson try 3 slamdunks only to hite enough rim that the ball zoomed off in another direction. I thought, 'dang - hope he's better during the game'. I think we're seeing Melson start to 'come out' so-to-speak. He may not get 20 Saturday night but I'll bet he's over a dozen. I also think Mt K. is due for some point gathering. NWG - Wow, he was hitting one shot after another before the game. I think he'll stay near Melson in the scoring dept. on Saturday.

I also hope to see a well officiated and safe game. Go Zags!

could be a blow out, but lets recall this is what, only their 2nd real road game?
I see a solid victory but not a 25-30 point blow out.

Ok Vegas line is in: Zag's ONLY 20 point favorites.........(not sure who's conning who???) game total only 139 !!! If we keep Gonzaga under 90, I'd say that would be a 'moral victory for the defense'; if we score near 70 points that would also be a 'moral victory for the offense'! And Vuko, the Greek and Sami can't play? Taylor (did he suit up for Portland???) Now, we have a bright spot potentially.... our offensive boarding could prove to be a bright spot...... as one of the 'so called weaknesses of this Zag team, is blocking out, yet they have been working on this....... some say this is a by-product of their two centers abilities in blocking shots, with teammates caught waiting for the block instead of minding their own duties ???? So Lampkin/Townes could it some put backs or improve our 2nd chances......... I feel this line is WAY OFF. Of course, maybe the Tigers will prove me wrong!!! Rise to the occasion and play their "A" game ......... I'm more in the present images of the Portland game and the Pepperdine game:

I call it Gonzaga 95 Pacific 66 I just checked the on line seats; only 18 tickets left??? Should be a wonderful theatre for the players!!!!!

Pacific will be short handed as was Pepperdine [no excuse...just a fact] Our remaining players could play near perfect, and I'm not sure we could keep the difference under 20!!!! I am hoping that the Tigers will fight to the end; and the local crowd plus large GU contingent appreciate what a top D-1 Team looks like!!!!

What I would like to see:

A hot start by GU; take the Spanos Center fans out of it early. UOP gets terrible support; would not be shocked if half of the crowd is GU faithful. BTW, UOP was still selling tickets to the game two days ago.

A better scoring night from Williams. He has missed a few bunnies on his last few games. Not for lack of effort. The guy is a lunch-pail, nose-to-the-grindstone type. Would like to see his hard work and hustle pay off in the scorebook.

Continue the improvement in rebounding ! Zags did a better job on that front vs. Pepperdine. UOP has some size so GU will have to get after the boards.

No foul trouble for Tillie or Collins. They seem to be making strides on this and hope it continues.

I think they will be more focused and team oriented in the first half and will also play solid defense until the end. Up by 10 at the half, up by 25 with 8 minutes left. Win by 17. 80 - 63.

From the Spokesman article: "Pacific (6-8) is coming off an 80-76 home loss to Portland. The Tigers were without guard David Taylor (ankle), forward Ilias Theodorou (foot), Sami Eleraky (undisclosed) and Tonko Vuko (ankle)."

Any chatter about whether any of these 4 guys will play against GU tomorrow? It probably doesn't matter, just curious.
