OK, our weekly exercise. Where do the Zags sit in the rankings today? I think they edge up 1 spot.

Stay at 8. The higher teams I think won all of their games

Yep... they aren't moving an inch. Suspect the slide if anything.

UNC lost to Kentucky. Not sure that drops them but for the fact that gives them two losses and they are sitting right ahead of us.

Wasn't Crappy's crew ahead of GU in some secondary polls?

Got my money on Butler jumping ahead of the Zags.

Beat a top 10 team... just trying to think like the basic voter in these polls... logic tends to escape them.

This year, with those 4-5 teams seeming to be clearly a step ahead, it seems like 5-6 might be a ceiling for us. Remaining undefeated week after week might not move us up - beating SMC on the road might be a statement win.

C'mon we can't drop. We are undefeated AND just won another game even with such officiating. No way we are dropping.

You guys are applying actual logic... Poll voters... they don't think... they go for the shiny object.

I would keep them 8th but I suspect they'll moved up to 7th. Seems wrong to punishing UNC for playing like a top 10 team vs a top 10 team. I'd keep them 7th.

your views on logic are interesting. above, you basically said it defies logic to bump a team up for beating a top 10 team. i wonder if that same logic would apply if gonzaga beat a top 10 team

I think GU at #8 is about right. Here's how I rate the top ten teams in terms of talent and grit, not current record.
1) Duke
2) UK
3) UNC
4) UCLA
5) NOVA
6) KS
7) Louisville
8) GU
9) W VA
10) Baylor

Anyone who asserts addiding SU to the WCC is a good move is skating on thin ice when it comes to logic.

i think i laid out the case for SU pretty cleanly. upside based on a small list of advantages. you dont have to agree that they'd hit the upside that they could, but it's still a logical argument...

edit: by the way, that points that lead to SU's upside are very similar to those that built the big east from nothing to what it was in the 80s-90s-00s and still today. many people didnt believe it could/would work. look how that turned out...

this is a very cloistered community

sure do, that drove my choice of words

in a more secular context, "excessively myopic" would have been the choice

I think "fan" is a more prosaic choice.

I think Zags stay at #8, but close the points gap on #7 UNC. So positive movement in the votes, but not the ranking.

Butler moves up a few spots to, say, #12.
