Was surprised by his entry late in the game. Timing? Rationale? Too late to climb into rotation? Adds additional depth? Effect on team and other players' minutes?

Who knows the story? Please dish.

Umm, Jones redshirted last year after transferring from Rice....only get one unless you're granted a medical redshirt

He's just healed up from a high ankle sprain which can take awhile to heal.

I think that the plan is to bring him on during the league season. They should have enough games and enough minutes to bring him up to speed to help against certain teams in tournament. I think he will become a defensive specialist against certain teams.

i don't think there is any story to it. he redshirted last year so a redshirt this year wasn't an option unless his injury was such that it might warrant a medical redshirt (and doesn't sound like it could have reached that level). is there something i'm missing?

I'm looking forward to hopefully seeing Jones become an asset off the bench right with the likes of Melson, Collins and Tillie ..... lofty goal no doubt! Our bench is already AMAZING!

Agreed. I hope he earns minutes and the guys continue embracing a team first, sacrifice for the betterment of the whole mentality. I can see a mile down the road, Zags biggest game of the season in hopefulliy either Sweet 16 or Elite Eight having to beat a team like Carolina or Kansas or Duke to advance. Neither Matthews nor Melson can shut down an elite small forward in 6'6"-6'8" range. This team is going to need someone who can play 10-15 minutes of defense at crucial points in a game like that. I hope Jones proves good enough and tough enough to be that guy; and I hope coaches let him audition for that role during WCC play.

During scrimmages this summer the Zags had Jones guarding Rui --- He is supposed to be a good defender.

Jones may end being very helpful in a game against the
Gaels as he could be one more excellent defender to run
At Hermanson...

I agree. He is 6'6" and he is suppose to be a good defender. If true, he is going to be an asset in certain games. Defense and rebounding are always important.
