I haven't seen this posted yet as I stumbled on this article while looking for some GU UW pre-game press. Excellent stuff going back to the "Wartime" Zags when Navy guys dominated the campus during WWII.

Wally McGovern, who played guard on that team, went on to become a federal judge in Seattle.

Wow, basketball must have been pretty rough back then. I love that the UW player had to wear a helmet and face mask to play against our rugged group of players at GU!

Unusual piece of history I was not familiar with. Love the b&w photos! Interesting how enrollment at GU fell by a whopping 50% the year following the Pearl Harbor attack. "Throwback" info like this is yet another reason I so enjoy being a part of GUboards. Thanks for posting this link! Thanks also to Mike Schmeltzer for doing the research and penning this article - nice work.
