Think the Ames story was a good one. Writer used the word "grit" in describing ISU's comeback. There it is. Grit! We've got it, we've used it to win. Just have to bring it front and center game long.

Chess match----check mate!

“They did a great job fouling us,” said Naz Mitrou-Long, who was supposed to take the final 3-pointer. “Had they not done that I think it would have worked perfectly.”

“I should have given them one other action to run,” Iowa State coach Steve Prohm lamented.

Gonzaga planned to switch on screens on the Cyclones’ last possession.

“We didn’t want to get beat by a 3,” coach Mark Few said. “We wanted them to use some clock before we fouled. We had our young, mobile group out there that can move their feet pretty darn good. We wanted them to take a tough 2.

Be sure to check out the post-game audio recordings in Meehan's piece (http://www.spokesman.com/stories/2016/nov/27/up-and-down-gonzaga-holds-off-iowa-state-73-71-for/). I've come to look forward to Meehan's post-game audio recordings more than all the other post-game coverage. Got to go listen again. Lots of good stuff in those recordings.

I want to forget this game as soon as I can

I will try to remember the good play that got the Zags up by 18, and the mental fortitude to pull it out in the end.

That said, I'm glad I watched it on delay and was able to fast forward through the commercials; I might not have fingernails left, otherwise.

I felt that there were many fouls not called. Interesting that this player would blame the no-calls on the loss.

I think he was referring to the foul the Zags purposely committed with 5 seconds left to make them set up a play with less time.

Yes, he was referring to the foul with 5sec left. It threw them off as they didn't expect it and didn't have another play called to run wit only 5 seconds left. It was brilliant by Few actually.

Worked out beautifully ... excellent move by Few. It seemed to rattle the Cyclones ... I thought they should have penetrated to the hoop rather than place all bets on knocking down a trey. Swinging the ball around the perimeter took all of that 5 seconds (the shot appeared to be after time expired).

CONGRATS to both guys. I thought j. Williams showed a lot of toughness and savy. I really like his game. NWG is a great point guard.

Interesting title and a few tidbits:

Peterson: Burton must be a beast for an entire game, not just a half

“I like letting guys play,” Prohm said. “Since we had gone about two or three trips without scoring, I wanted to make sure we knew what we were running.

“We didn’t want to go overtime, so we drew something up to get a three, and we were going to win or lose it right there,” Prohm said

I actually really didn't want it to go overtime and thought the Clones would have had them right where they wanted them.
