Nice to see the WCC win the games they should win. Hope they keep it up during non conference play.

Tennessee lost to Chattanooga. After trailing early, Florida pulled away from Florida-Gulf Coast in the 2nd half.

Anybody watch Indiana-Kansas? That was a great back-and-forth game. Went OT. Indiana pulled it out. Blackmon from Indiana and Mason from Kansas couldn't be stopped.

San Diego St. beat San Diego by 10.

6-2 record v D1 for WCC. If that pace is maintained it will really help w/ RPI for in conference games.

UCLA looked scary good in the few minutes I watched. Leaf's a stud, and Ball makes Alford (the kid) better.

I was surprised/relieved Arizona beat Mich. State as they've had some injuries and Trier suspended.....had me worried they would lose big and be just a top 20 opponent at best when they play Zags. I'm rooting for AZ to win every game up to Zags so it can be a real signature victory for this team's resume.

From the Reno-Gazette Journal:

MORAGA, Calif. – Saint Mary’s used the same five starters in all 35 games last season, a quintet that returned in full form this year. But Friday night against Nevada, it was the Gaels' secret weapon that doomed the Wolf Pack.

Junior Jock Landale, a 6-foot-11 center who made a surprise start, the first of his career, was nearly unstoppable and so, too, was the offense of Saint Mary’s, which scored a 81-63 victory before a sellout crowd of 3,500 fans at McKeon Pavilion.

“It’s like a wake-up call," senior guard Marcus Marshall said.

Landale scored 16 points in the first half en route to a career-high 33 on 15-of-20 shooting. He also grabbed a career-best nine rebounds as the Gaels rolled the Wolf Pack. Landale averaged just 7.9 points and 3.9 rebounds per game last season, but he was the difference on this night, leading Saint Mary’s to a 56-20 edge in points in the paint.

Good to see Saint Mary's playing so well. With wins almost across the board it looks like this could be a much improved conference this year.

LMU's win over a mutual fund company was very impressive. . . (wink wink, etc)

Got to help their "rating" I would imagine, Reno (triple wink, etc)

According to that excerpt from the article, SMC had a sellout crowd. That's great. Hopefully they'll do that every home game. They should, expectations should be really high and they should have a very successful season. No reason to only show up when they host GU.

Does SMC have a "Prep" school like G-Prep, the Jesuit school in Portland? If they do, it would be fascinating to see who had greater attendance, the high school or college, at least for non-GU games.

Ok, enough bagging on the team that beat us 2-3 (but not the last one, wink wink) last year and hope they are good this year.

Speaking of which, not that I think USD is "good" but I was impressed with their poise. They looked confident, under-control, mature. It won't make up for lack of talent, but it might keep their head above water a bit.
