I've got my DVR set for our guys' first regular season NBA games of the 2016-17 season. http://scores.espn.com/nba/scoreboard/_/date/20161026

4:30 Olynyk and the Celtics vs. the Nets. No TV in Spokane. (Assuming Kelly's been cleared to play after his shoulder surgery.)

5:00 Sabonis and the Thunder vs. 76ers, ESPN

7:30 Wiltjer and the Rockets vs. the Lakers, ESPN

Olynyk is still recovering from shoulder surgey...wont be playing for a couple more weeks I think.

I'll be at the Rockets/Lakers game and hope to see Kyle take the floor, but not betting on it. He may not even dress. Keep in mind that on 13 of the 15 man roster dress for a game.

Kyle was a DNP, but he'll see the court if the Rockets keep shooting 25% from 3 pt. Hardin was 1-7.

16 minutes, 5 points, 4 rebounds. Not bad.

Ya...and Harden also put up 34 points on 50% shooting along with 8 rbds and 17 assists. I really do think he will lead the NBA in assists this season.

The Rockets have a load of good three point shooters in Ryan Anderson, Eric Gordon, Trevor Ariza, Pat Beverly and more. 25% is likely an aberration. This is a team set up to have Harden driven and kick for threes or work the pick and roll with Capela.

It was fun to see Kyle dressed and warming up before the game and at halftime, but no floor time for him (he shot great in warm ups :) It was a close game throughout so I wasn't too surprised. At least Tyler Ennis got some run and looked decent (just an under control, game manager type PG - nothing special though).

One welcome to the NBA moment: a transition, alley-oop dunk by Henderson (?) right over the top of him.

DS needs to become a knock down spot up jump shooter so he can thrive in pick-n-pop plays and kick outs. He is not athletic enough to be a low post scorer in the NBA.

Wel, that's cool:

Brett Dawson ‏@BDawsonWrites

Gonzaga coach Mark Few at Thunder shootaround today.
Brett Dawson ‏

Obviously Mark Few coached Domas Sabonis at Gonzaga. He's also close with Billy Donovan. Coached USA Basketball together.

Game is in OKC. I wonder if he's combining with a recruiting visit in the area...

Question answered about what Few is doing in OKC:

Gonzaga scrimmages with Baylor tomorrow in Oklahoma City.

It seems like Kyle made his NBA debut, but only played 1 minute and didn't have any field goal attempts.

Domas with 8 points and 4 boards in 17 minutes.

Domas with a bit of a stinker against Lakers due to foul trouble... 0 points, 1 steal, 1 block and 4 fouls in 7 minutes. It seems like fouling will be a big issue for him in his rookie season.

Wiltjer didn't play.

As for Olynyk - "Olynyk (shoulder) will practice without restriction this week and should be available to return sometime in the next two weeks, Jeff Goodman of ESPN.com reports. (about 19 hours ago)"

Domas had 3 fouls in the first 4 minutes yesterday, but ended with 17 minutes played, six points, two rebounds. He was 3rd high scorer for OKC, tied with 4 other teammates. Westbrook better stay healthy.

Watched the game. Man, those fouls were something else. Rookies get zero respect from the referees. In terms of refereeing, NBA might be one of the worst leagues in the world.

By the way, Wiltjer played 4 minutes yesterday in a blowout win against the Knicks. 0-3 from the three-point line, but got 2 rebounds.

Even though most of it was in garbage time, it's still a nice showing from him. Loved that post-move and a hook on Durant. Durant is a legit 6'11 with a huge wingspan and a lot of NBA experience. With some adjustments, I think Domas' post moves should translate well to the NBA.

Domas' OKC team playing the Clippers coming up in a few minutes on NBA TV.

Kelly's Celtics team vs. the Knicks also on now, but I don't have it on any of my free TV listings. Kelly started and has 5 points, a rebound, and a couple of assists at the end of the first quarter. Box Score. (http://scores.espn.com/nba/boxscore?gameId=400899575)

Kelly with a very solid start. 10 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal in 15 minutes after the first half :)

Celtics are visiting Oklahoma on December 11th. How cool is that Sabonis-Olynyk head-to-head matchup going to be? :D

Some Sabonis excerpts from Zach Lowe's article on the Thunder, if anyone's interested:

Sabonis represents the possibility of a player the Thunder have searched years for: a playmaking power forward who can throw smart passes, pivot right into a killer dribble hand-off, nail 3s, post up smaller guys after switches, and drive to the rim when defenders rush to close out on him. Basically: a better Mitch McGary, without the weed.

Beyond Nick Collison, a bit player now, the Thunder bigs have been mechanical. Perhaps Sabonis can change that. He feels the game. He tells teammates where to cut before he even catches a pass. He knows where to be on defense, and he tries hard. He watches so much film, Collison had to suggest he stop before the season opener against Philly; Collison was afraid Sabonis would overwhelm himself with information, he said.

"He's an absolute sponge," Adams said of Sabonis.

He's hit 47 percent from deep on a healthy number of attempts, and he caught the Clippers -- the league's best defense so far -- by surprise with his shooting last week. Having him outside the arc helps their floor balance in transition defense, a nice side benefit with Westbrook spilling to the floor so often on drives.

The Thunder are already trying Sabonis as a stretch center in smaller lineups that open the floor for slashers like Grant. If he turns into an above-average starter, the Thunder have a very nice Sabonis-Adams frontline locked in for at least the next half-decade. That changes their franchise trajectory. If Sabonis settles in as an above-average 3-point shooter, he would also unclog the floor on offense.

As they wait for the youngsters, the Thunder will hunt incremental moves. They targeted Grant, and when Cameron Payne gets healthy, they might have enough to make a run at a Gay-level player; they can still trade the protected portion of the 2020 pick they flipped in the Grant deal, and they have about $7 million in cap room.

The Thunder sacrificed a pick for Waiters, and were prepared to do so in 2014 for Iman Shumpert -- two guys with tarnished reputations who might have grown into 3-and-D specialists within the Thunder culture.

The Thunder will kick the tires on similar guys over the next couple of years. The makeover won't happen fast. Hell, Sabonis is just 20, no sure bet to develop into a plus starter on a contender. Scouts are divided on whether he has enough oomph to attack off the bounce. He can't dislodge big guys on the block yet, and opponents with post games will bully him on the other end.

He will struggle chasing speedier power forwards and small-ball lineups on defense. In other words: What if Sabonis is actually a center who doesn't offer much rim protection?

Those questions take time to answer. Sabonis has shown encouraging flashes -- I'm bullish -- but flashes are momentary. Being consistently really good in the NBA is beyond most of the player population.

Shoot. My so has commandeered the TV, so I can't watch Domas at Portland. Will just have to follow along with the Box Scoree. (http://scores.espn.com/nba/boxscore?gameId=400899815) Domas hit a three and a two in his six minutes on the court, plus a couple of rebounds. Two fouls, however.

Go Domas!

Bart, you haven't watched enough. Domus is in the flow but he is not considered a 1st option for the 3 ball, that seems to go to Oladipo or Roberson from the corner. Remember, Domus is just learning how to be a weapon from outside 9'. I think his defense has improved and he is attacking the rim more though his success at converting there is problematic. I see improvement in his game everytime out. JMO Watching the Thunder play without Durant is a new adventure every time out too.

Ok, I will take your word for it. I know Billy is a excellent coach and I am not surprised Domas is not the 3 option on offense.

I am no fan of Westbrook and I recall Durant saying he was happy to be with a team that was as unselfish as Golden State.

The amazing part to me was the 9/11, 4-5 and 4/4 FT's for his 26 points, and they said Isiah Thomas was the POG with 28...sub .500 shooting from the field including 3 pts. He was 5-5 at the line.

Last night's game vs the Mavs I believe marks the first time Sabonis registered a DNP this season. He has been in a rookie slump and Donovan has been fiddling with lineups a lot lately
