SPOKANE, Wash.--Gonzaga baseball head coach Mark Machtolf announced Wednesday that Jake Vieth of Tacoma Community College has signed a National Letter of Intent and will join the Zags for the 2017 season.

Vieth joins an already-impressive signee class of Taylor Borchers, Haydan Hastings, Troy Johnston, Keaton Knueppel, Mac Lardner, Casey Legumina, Parker Price, and Gunnar Schubert. All nine players will enroll for the Fall 2016 semester.

Vieth had an illustrious two-year career at Tacoma Community College. He twice picked up All-Region and All-Conference honors, earning both First Team ABCA/Rawlings Pacific Association All-American honors and the Northwest Athletic Conference's Most Valuable Player award as a sophomore. During his stellar second year, he led the league with a 1.221 on-base plus slugging and was second in the league with a .405 batting average. A Tacoma native, Vieth also tied for second with seven home runs and tied for third with 41 RBIs.

As a freshman at TCC, he hit .364, good for second-best on the Titans' squad. He also finished among the team's top two in five other categories, earning Second Team All-NWAC and Second Team All-Region. The Stadium High School graduate also won the league's Gold Glove award at first base as well.

Why Vieth chose Gonzaga: "I chose Gonzaga for the quality education that is offered and the great baseball program."

Coach Machtolf on Vieth: "Jake is a quality left-handed power hitter who also hits for average. We are very excited that he will be a Zag in 2017."

Vieth is currently playing his summer ball with the Bellingham Bells of the West Coast League. He will represent the Bells at the WCL All Star Game on Tuesday, July 19.
