Well, that was fun. Pangos' Hawks over Wiltjer's Rockets, 83-78.

Nice game for Kevin, though I was surprised stats show only one assist for him.

It was fun to see these guys again! It seemed to me that while Kevin had some great passes, few actually led to baskets. The guys he passed to ended up passing it on for the baskets. Or, so it seemed to me. :)

Wiltjer was substituted for Montrezl Harrell or Michael Beasley at the power forward position throughout the game. Wiltjer would camp out on the perimeter on offense & try to defend in the post on defense

Kevin Calabro and Steve Smith were talking up Pangos some today and complemented his defense. He took a charge. He distributed the ball well but often made the first pass so only two assists in the box score.

With Jarrett Jack in Atlanta now, KPs only shot with them seemly depends on ATL dumping Kirk Hinrich. Not sure that is going to happen.

KP has at least two Euroleague teams chasing him and offering more money than he would likely get from a NBA team.

What's the choice? 12th man on a NBA team or starter (star?) on a Euroleague team making more money? I know what I would choose...but I am old and rational.

Stockton just signed with Euroleague team Cedivita Zagreb supposedly.

Mantua

Stockton looked terrific in the footage @ZagsGuru posted on Twitter yesterday. The Euroleague has a lot to offer young people in money, knowledge and life experience. In some ways the NBA can be a dull grind. I like to think about how much love our guys are getting from European fans.

The Patterson waiver won't make a difference for Pangos & the Hawks. Quite honestly the signing of Jack was not a smart move when you could have signed Pangos. KP will be in an NBA uniform for training camp just not the Hawks IMO.

Pangos doing his job. Playing well. Securing big offers overseas and much deserved. Hope he gets a shot with NBA team, but would make way more $ in Europe.

Wiltjer shooting too many 3's. He's developed a nice, all-around game. I wish he'd show more of his moves underneath, even vs bigger players. He's so skilled, also has a mid-range game that would be effective in today's NBA. He's not really showing this in Summer League play. He's hit some perimeter shots, yet 1-7 from 3pt isn't going to cut it. I'm sure he's viewed as a tall spot up shooter, yet he has so much more to show and not really showing it. Somewhat disappointed in his play, but much like Pangos, could become a star in Europe. And $$$ will follow.

Absolutely! I'd love us to have a player of his caliber. A high basketball IQ player who can shoot the lights out - words that could also describe prime Jasikevicius who's currently the head coach of Zalgiris. I think Pangos would also gain a lot by being coached by him :)

After watching 2 of Kevin's games...he's become much quicker and stronger with the ball.

Not sure if it's overseas training, late bloomer, or what, but as good as he already was, he's a legit threat to dribble-drive these days.

I'd say his legs look leaner as well.

Maybe the Mediterranean diet or his early morning runs on the beach, either way, he's faster.

Euro training is all about lean muscle over building mass, & it's paying off.

Kevin looks lime a legit NBA back-up PG these days. He always had the shot, ball handling, vision, IQ, & leadership, but lacked the finishing strength & quickness.

Pangos will be a high level pro for years to come.

Canadian PG play was atrocious during Olympic qualifiers
. They could have used KP in the worst way.

Kevin deserves a shot in the league. Even his defense has been solid.

If not, he'll make a boat load in Europe before becoming a full time coach in Canada or Gonzaga.

Yeah. It would be great if it was "Hey, we are going to sign you, so just sit tight and let us give some other guys a look.", but could very well be "Thanks for the effort, we're gonna play the guys that are going to have the best shot at making the team, and we need to consolidate the minutes."

First sentence is wrong, but second is still correct. PG play was excellent for Team Canada - Cory Joseph was our best player and likely the best player in the Qualifying Tournament - he was our primary PG (and part time SG). Tyler Ennis was pretty good too as the other PG. What failed Canada was a complete lack of outside shooting. Brady Heslip and Phil Scrubb played as bad as I have ever seen them play offensively and defensively (Brady is never any good on the defensive side of the ball). They shot collective 5/25 from three across the three Qualifier games. Brady is supposedly one of the best 3pt shooters in the World and was routinely bricking open shots. There was no outside threat for Canada, teams sagged and packed the paint...our offense was pretty ugly. KP was sorely missed by Team Canada for his outside shooting (but so was Olynyk, Stuaskas, Nicholson, Wiggins, Lyles, wiltjer etc etc - what a mess!). KP played allot of SG for Gran Canaria, but I would have been very happy seeing him and CoJo starting in complementary PG/SG roles.

My contention was that KO was the one player missed in the worst way. He is such a good FIBA player. If he was there we would have been a very different team.

Interesting to also see Leo Westermann (X Limoges) on the same roster. KP and Leo played against each other in the Eurocup quarterfinals, Westermann blocked KP twice in the opening game, I'm sure he is happier to have him on the same team now.

I see them forming a pretty good combination next year.

Good step up for KP, will play against top competition every week and further hone his skills.

Of note for Canadian fans, KP actually most likely takes the roster place of is World U17 teammate Olivier Hanlon.

The other coincidence is that the U17 Bronze medal winning team beat Lithuania for that third placing!

Lithuania is full of amazing people so I bet he'll love it. It's not that sunny though ;-)

It'll be a great place to develop his game for another year or two. I think he'll join NBA within maximum two years - his game in the Summer League was just good enough. With another year of experience in Europe he'll be even better.

I'd rather see him stay in Europe until he has a legit offer in the NBA for a back-up rotational role (top 8-10 player). Why sit on the end of an NBA the bench, never seeing minutes and going up and down to the D-league for near minimum money? Which is what roster spots 12-15 usually do.
Stay in Europe for more money, a starters role and keep improving your game. People like to discount playing in Europe, but the top leagues are not too far behind the NBA and hold many, many players that are good enough for the NBA but choose to play in Europe. It is a different game too, more reliant on skill, shooting, team work, IQ and it's more physical too. Some guys are better suited to the European leagues where others are a better fit in the NBA. There are plenty of low skilled, uber athletic players in the NBA that might not be that valuable in the top European leagues.

I doubt he plays since he was held out last night.
The Euro teams want to lock players up if possible and push back hard against NBA-opt out clauses and what not. I don't think we know the terms of his contract yet, but I take this announcement as he is done with trying for the NBA for this year.

Larry Nance just broke his hand....I'd want Pangos done with SL if I was Zalgris management.

Sarunas Jasikevicius on Pangos:

"Kevin is a player that we REALLY wanted to have on our team. He's a young and very hungry guy who has tremendous tools and skillset for the point guard position. He has a lot of potential and he might become an elite player very soon. He will also be huge for our long-range game. Kevin will spend a lot of time on the court paired with Leo Westermann, because they both are able to run an offense."

Hmmm a team that runs two point guards on the court at the same time....sounds like something GU players and fans are familiar with...

We also have Lekavicius on the roster who's a year younger than Pangos and is also an ultra fast point guard. Should be a really fun backcourt rotation :D

Here he is scoring 9 points in a row against Delly and company :D
