Yes and no. Iy may offer a better chance to end up on an NBA bench than having a mediocre record at USF.

Based on my experience, the D-League can be what you make of it...but overall, I wouldn't go there unless I had to.

Again... better than not coaching at all.

Very few if any college coaches are making the jump to assistant anything in the NBA... it is HC or bust.

It can also hurt you. I worked in the D-League. It's an embarrassment.

Hurt you worse than being a mediocre college coach?

If I was given a choice between USF or some college at that level, or the D-League, with what I know...I wouldn't go to the D-League without very, very beneficial circumstances. Going from USF to D-League is a giant step down. I'll expand on that, if need be.

I will say this: I don't think Rex's style will get as much toleration given the setting. If he is losing and acting like a jerk, they won't keep him around.

Having said all of this, perhaps this is the right move for him. We'll know in time. I just don't have a high opinion of the D-League.

Quinn Snyder went from head coach at Mizzoo to the D league and then to head coach of the Jazz IINM!
