OVERLAND PARK, Kansas—Senior infielder Taylor Jones earned Senior CLASS Award Second-Team All-America honors recently after a stellar final season with Gonzaga baseball.

Jones is the first Gonzaga baseball player to earn Senior CLASS Award All-America accolades. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in SchoolŪ, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

During his final season as a Zag, Jones hit .332 with a slugging percentage of .509. His 27 doubles tied the program’s single-season record and are the second most in Division I. In all, Jones led the Zags with 77 hits, driving in 36 RBIs and scoring 37 himself. He also posted a .991 fielding percentage at first base.

Away from the diamond, Jones was even better. He graduated in May with a degree in communication studies, posting a 3.52 GPA and earning a spot on Gonzaga's President's List in each of the last four semesters. In the clubhouse, he was a team leader, always had an open ear and a huge smile, and always filled whatever role is asked of him. In the community, however, is where he and the rest of the baseball team shined. Altogether, Gonzaga baseball donated around 800 hours of community service during the 2015-16 school year, and Jones was involved in every step along the way.

Jones was selected as one of 10 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award in April. The award is given annually to a senior student-athlete who has notable achievements in the community, classroom, character, and competition. Campbell’s Matt Parrish won the award while Jones took a spot on the Second Team.

This is the Kent, Wash., native’s sixth award in 2016. Jones previously was named Third Team Academic All-America, Academic All-District, Second Team All-WCC, and NCAA Fort Worth All-Region. He was selected in the 19th round of the 2016 MLB First Year Player Draft by the Houston Astros.
