Taylor Jones a Finalist for Senior CLASS Award

Slugger from Kent, Wash., one of 10 finalists

April 26, 2016

OVERLAND PARK, Kansas--Senior infielder Taylor Jones was named a finalist for the Senior CLASS award Monday.

After becoming a candidate for the award - given annually to a senior student-athlete who has notable achievements in the community, classroom, character, and competition - in March, Jones was selected as one of 10 finalists by members of the national media. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately to help select the winner of the award. Fans are encouraged to vote on the Senior CLASS Award website through June 7. Fan votes will be combined with media and Division I head coaches' votes to determine the winner. This year's Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2016 College World Series® in June.

A Kent, Wash., native, Jones is having a career year during his final year at Gonzaga. He leads the conference and is 11th in the nation with 17 doubles, and he's tied for the league lead with four triples as well. The first baseman is also third with 55 hits and fourth with a .369 batting average. All of those are already career highs for Jones, and he's also set personal bests with 27 runs scored and 15 walks. Additionally, he's just three RBIs away from a career high in that category as well.

Away from the diamond, Jones' resume is even stronger. The applied communication studies major holds a 3.50 GPA and has been named to Gonzaga's President's List in each of the last three semesters. In the clubhouse, he's a team leader, has an open ear and a huge smile for whoever needs it, and has always filled whatever role is asked of him. In the community, however, is where he and the rest of the baseball team shines. Altogether, Gonzaga baseball donated for than 450 hours of community service during the Fall 2015 semester alone, and Jones was involved in every step along the way...
