HOME ONCE MORE:

•The Zags will play their final homestand of the season against Santa Clara. So far they’re 6-1 at home this season, sweeping Portland, taking two of three from Pepperdine, and shutting out Washington State 8-0 in the lone home non-conference game.
•2016 marks Gonzaga baseball’s 10th season at Patterson Baseball Complex, and ever since opening the facility with a 9-4 win over Rider March 15, 2007, they’ve never looked back. The Bulldogs have 10 winning seasons at Patterson, posting an overall record of 113-72 (.611). Their best winning percentage in the park came in 2011 when they went 11-5, although the Zags can better that by winning at least one game against the Broncos. In 2012, they won 17 games, their most in the facility. The Zags have posted a winning record at home in each of their six seasons, picking up at least 10 wins at Patterson from 2011 to 2015.
•Prior to Sunday’s game, four seniors will be honored before their final game at Patterson: Harris, Dustin Breshears, Taylor Jones, and Jimmy Sinatro...

Zags Down Santa Clara 7-4

Jones homers, Bailey fans 10 in win

SPOKANE, Wash.--Thanks to another strong outing on the mound by Brandon Bailey and a pair of three-RBI days from Taylor Jones and Tyler Frost, the Gonzaga baseball team beat Santa Clara 7-4 to open the team's final homestand of the year Friday night at Patterson Baseball Complex & Washington Trust Field...

Bulldog Bites:

•The game featured the two premier strikeout pitchers of the West Coast Conference as Santa Clara starter Mitchell White entered the game topping the conference with 80 batters struck out and GU's Bailey was second with 72. White struck out nine batters in his 5.0 innings of work while Bailey fanned 10 in 7.0. In all, both pitching staffs combined to retire 25 batters via the strikeout, the most of the season for the Bulldogs and their opponents. Bailey's now struck out 10 or more batters three times in his career, two of those coming this season...

Defense and Pitching Boosts GU over Broncos

Zags clinch at least series win with 3-0 shutout

SPOKANE, Wash.--With stellar defensive efforts and just as high-quality pitching, the Gonzaga baseball team clinched a series win over Santa Clara Saturday night, shutting out the Broncos 3-0 at Patterson Baseball Complex & Washington Trust Field...

Bulldog Bites:

Gonzaga posted its fourth shutout of the season, holding the Broncos scoreless by scattering nine hits and forcing the Broncos to leave nine runners on base. It's the Zags' first win of the season while being out-hit by an opponent. All four of their shutouts have come in the last 13 games, and the Zags are 11-2 during that stretch.
The Zags entered the game with a .977 fielding average, the best in the West Coast Conference. They displayed that defensive prowess with a trio of diving catches, including one from Tyler Frost in the first inning, Taylor Jones on a popped-up bunt in the third, and Breshears on a diving liner in the fifth.
Morgan picked up the win, his seventh of the season and sixth in his last seven starts. With adding seven more strikeouts and eight scoreless innings pitched, he now has a 1.37 ERA during that stretch and has lowered his season ERA to 3.29, more than six whole points from where it was after his start at TCU in early March. Six of his last seven starts have been quality starts, and four of those are ultra-quality starts where he's allowed fewer than two runs in at least 7.0 innings of work..

Next Up:

Zags Fall to Santa Clara on Senior Day

Broncos avoid series sweep with 6-0 victory

SPOKANE, Wash.--The Gonzaga University baseball team completed its abbreviated 2016 home schedule Sunday, dropping a 6-0 decision to Santa Clara at Patterson Baseball Complex & Washington Trust Field...

Bulldog Bites:

•Despite the loss, the Zags wrap up their most successful home season in the 10-year history of Patterson Baseball Complex & Washington Trust field. The Zags went 8-2 (.800) at home this year, their highest win percentage in the facility.
•The Zags (12-6 WCC) are still in first place in the conference after the loss. They lead both BYU and Saint Mary's by two games in the win column and trail both by one in the loss column; all three teams are even with a .667 conference winning percentage.
•Gonzaga entered the day three games ahead of fourth place. Gonzaga has won four of its six WCC series so far this year, sweeping Pacific and Portland while taking two from Pepperdine and Santa Clara.
•Prior to the game, the Zags honored four seniors for their hard work and dedication to Gonzaga baseball. Jones, Dustin Breshears, Joey Harris, and Jimmy Sinatro all saw the final collegiate home game of their career. Breshears, Harris, and Jones started the game while Sinatro came in as a pinch hitter in the ninth.

Next Up:

The Zags (24-13 overall) begin an 11-game road trip to end the regular season with a big West Coast Conference series next weekend. The first-place Bulldogs will travel to Provo, Utah, for three games against BYU, who is tied for second place in the conference. That series will begin on Thursday, April 28.
