Two Zags Named All-WCC First Team

Pagdanganan Co-Freshman of the Year, Min Conference Medalist

April 21, 2016

SAN BRUNO, Calif.—A pair of Bulldogs earned postseason West Coast Conference honors Wednesday as Bianca Pagdanganan won Co-Freshman of the Year, Ciera Min was the conference’s Championship Medalist, and both were named First Team All-WCC.

Pagdanganan broke onto the scene in a big way her first year at Gonzaga, winning the prestigious Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational in October 2015 and tallying four other Top 10 finishes, three of those in the Top 5. She tied for second at the recent WCC Championships while added finishes in fourth, fifth, and a tie for seventh during the spring season as well. The Quezon City, Philippines, native is on pace to shatter the school record for season stroke average at 72.65. She’s also ranked No. 63 in the nation by GolfWeek and No. 78 by GolfStat.

Both the Co-Freshman of the Year Award and First Team All-WCC designated are her first postseason accolades; she was WCC Player of the Month for the month of February. She is the second Zag to earn at least a share of the conference’s top freshman honor.

Min, meanwhile, earned her third consecutive All-Conference honor after winning the conference championship. She eliminated an eight-stroke deficit in April 20’s final round with a school record 6-under-par 66. A Hilo, Hawaii native, Min finished the tournament at even-par 216, three strokes ahead of second place. It was her first career tournament victory.

The junior is second on Gonzaga with a 74.38 stroke average and two Top-10 finishes on the year: her win in the WCCs and a fifth-place showing at October’s Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational.

This is the sixth year in a row Gonzaga has placed multiple student-athletes on the All-Conference team...
