Jakob Poetl received the Kareem Abdul Jabar, center of the year award. We all saw how he played when he went up against DS... Any thoughts.?

Stiff just like his fellow country man Bogut. Sabonis will eat his lunch again in workouts.

Also, Bogut was the player of the year by many. Bogut was a fair bit better in college.

Bogut was named the 2004–05 national player of the year by ESPN.com and Basketball Times, and earned Associated Press first-team All-American and leading vote getter, becoming the 11th Ute all-time to earn All-America honours. He also earned Naismith College Player of the Year honours and the John R. Wooden Award.

Bogut was selected by the Milwaukee Bucks with the first overall pick in the 2005 NBA draft. As a rookie in 2005–06, he earned All-Rookie First Team honours and finished third in votes for the NBA Rookie of the Year Award.

Bogut was a good college player. His class was weak hence the #1 pick. Slowed by injuries in the pros. I see Jakob as in between pre injury and post injury Bogut.

Doesn't matter who got that award. That award ain't gonna put points on the board in the pro's. Poeltl got dissected and dismantled by a power forward.

Perhaps the "not quite" refers to the fact that Bogut is from Australia and Poetl is from Austria. No?

i have no problem with poetl winning...one game doesn't mean a whole lot in the big picture. sabonis laid his share of duds this year...

Sabonis passed on a chance at the Wooden, a good chance. Can't see he cares at all about this minor one..

Austria (Poeltl) is a country in Europe, Australia (Bogut) on the other hand is a country on another continent.

FTR, zffl acknowledged the error.

Based on what? Hes as good as Bogut was. But i correct myself. Bogut is Australian. Poetl is austrian. So theres that.

But I think Bogut was a very good college player and a decent pro. I don't really have an issue with Proeltl winning the award this year. He had a good year with a poor ending. Would I have chosen Sabonis? Yes. But I'm biased.

exactly. Poetl had a great year and a bad game against the zags. He deserved this award.

I agree that his body of work warrants the award from a statistical standpoint, I just don't agree that it was a "bad game". He got demolished by a better player...who plays a difference position. Domas enforced his will upon Jakob.

Bad comparison. Sabonis was way better vs Poetl, and I had my doubts about Poetl to begin with. Poetl did not deserve the award over Sabonis.

Sabonis is a PF playing center. Poetl is a Center.

No. He's (Poeltl) just not better than the 4 that we had playing 5.

Welcome to the Board. Good thread topic, way to go.

Please post more. The beer is in Jazz's Fridge, Soda, too - depending on how "young" you are. :)

And don't you be going anywhere now that Domas is moving on. Your Zag through and through now, just like Domas.

I have a feeling I'll continue to root for the Zags :-) Some really intriguing new recruits (especially Hachimura).

I go to a lot of the Utah home games and have seen Poeltl perform live many time for the last two years. He's pretty damned good. I was as excited as the next Zag to see Sabonis cook him, and it definitely warranted some renewed skepticism, but I think it's unfair to brand him overrated not an elite player on that one performance. I think they both are well-positioned for bright futures, and I think Sabonis would've had more attention if he came into the year a starter.
