    Mock Selection

So, some media members apparently got together with some committee members to learn the process of selecting the field, then did it themselves.

I put very, very little stock into it because it's pretty dumb, but there's no Gonzaga. I don't know how or why, and again, I put little stock into it. But it has me worried.

Yeah, it's unconscionable. I asked about it, they said the auto-bids were randomized. Which...ok!

But either way, let's win Vegas so we don't have to sweat it out.

This mock is really dumb. I believe that if the tournament selection was done right now, that we'd be in as at least a 9. As an at large. No way are we out. 17-18 in last 18 road games. That's tournament quality right there.

Let's beat SMU tomorrow and make that 18-19

Not requesting a free pass but some of the teams they have above the Zags are ridiculous. Some of those teams are on 2 or 3 game losing streaks. Some with 7-8 losses.

Lunardi projects us as a 8 seed yet committee leaves us out altogether?

Being punished for playing teams atop their respective conference without our starting Center.

I thought the committee looked kindly on catastrophic injuries and how you are playing lately??

          Eye opening but senseless.

Yam is hump. Curios as to who is running the mock selection. Given how BYU is playing why would they assume they run the table at the tourney?

There's still work to do... I still think we need to win two out of three (against BYU, St. Mary's and SMU) to solidify a spot irregardless of the conference tourney (given no bad losses the rest of the way). If we can keep playing the way we played last night, that should be very do-able.

If BYU is in then the mock bracket is worthless. Gonzaga will be in if they beat SMU and win either the regular season or conference tournament title. They are probably in if they run the conference, lose to SMU, and make the conference championship game. Regardless, we will win the conference tournament as we are simply the best team and are playing the best ball right now.

The NCAA has been staging these mock committee exercises for several years now. The idea is to invite reporters and broadcasters in and show them how the selection process works, in hopes that they'll write columns about how hard it is to pick the tournament field, and refrain from writing columns about how badly the committee screwed up.

Most of the big national writers participated in the first year or two. I didn't even know they were still doing them.

In any case, as part of the mock committee they pick a few upset conference tournament winners. Just to make the mock committee's job a little harder. If everybody who's supposed to win does so, it's a pretty boring mock process.

The point being, nobody is predicting that BYU will win the autobid. It was just thrown out there as part of an academic exercise. And GU being left out of the mock field, picked by god-knows-who, means precisely nothing.

the goal of the committee is to evaluate the team as they are (at tourney time). we don't get any sort of bonus or forgiveness for our performance without karnowski because he's not going to be playing during the tourney, either.

Although they probably should forgive the extent of some of those games. We are playing a lot better now then some of those earlier losses because we just started playing good without our center. When it first starte without karnowski we don't look so hot and we lost winnable games.
