Sophomore forward Domantas Sabonis was named the WCC Player of the Week after a pair of impressive performances in two Gonzaga wins, league officials announced Monday.

The Kaunas, Lithuania, native put together an ultra-efficient week in averaging 20.5 points and 10.5 rebounds while making 19-of-23 field goals. Heís the first Gonzaga menís basketball player to win the award this season, and was one of four GU players to earn the award last season.

In a 91-52 win over Northern Arizona, the sophomore forward scored a career-high 26 points on 12-of-13 shooting, while pulling down seven rebounds (four offensive) and adding one block.

Three days later in a 101-56 win over Mount St. Mary's, Sabonis made 7-of-10 shots to score 15 points, but more impressively he set another career-high in pulling down 14 rebounds.

For the week he had nine offensive rebounds, helping Gonzaga outscore its opponents a total of 38 to 11.

Gonzaga (2-0) is in the Bahamas this week at the Battle 4 Atlantis, and will play Washington in the first round on Wednesday at 9 a.m. PT. The game will be televised on ESPN and streamed on WatchESPN.com.

Well deserved. He had quite a week. If he keeps this up vs bigger competition he may take some attention away from wiltjer.
