After such a great year with Pangos and Bell shaking up many categories in the record book, including Pangos ending his career ranked 5th in career scoring, 5th in assists, 2nd in steals and 1st in 3-pointers made. We now move our focus to this years team and Karnowski who will be the first to appear on and move up the career lists. Wiltjer could reach the 1,000 point club before the end of the season if he replicates his scoring from a year ago.

Karno should easily take that #4 blocked shots spot. He will definetly break into that top 15 in rebounding, dont know if he'll crack top ten.

KW if he had have actually played at KU would have a heck of a career points line by now.

Loved watching these stats last year, good call to keep it going.

Some other career records are out there to be had as well... if we make it to the sweet 16, Dranginis and Karnowski will have tied for the most NCAA wins with Calvary/Spink (7), and set a new mark for career NCAA games played with 11 (and if I did my math right, Karnowski would also tie Calvary for the most NCAA games started with 10)

Does Karnowski have a shot at the all time wins record? I was under the impression that he does.

He has 97 while Pangos has 122. It's more than possible ;-)

Not to beat a dead horse (yet again) but . . . Jerry Vermillion's rebound record is eye popping. He's about 700 rebounds ahead of the next nearest player. There are only 6 players in GU history who have more than that number of career rebounds. Why this man hasn't been inducted into the GU HOF continues to elude me.

And am I correct in saying there were no 3 point shots back then.

And am I correct in saying there were no 3 point shots back then.

Yes, that's true but I think it was also a higher scoring game back then. It potAto/potAWto to me. Just doing the math, I think Burgess would lead the Zags all time if he played 4 years.

It's a real shame Karnowski hasn't been able to play, so his move up the career blocked shots list has been severely hampered.

I think it's conceivable that Domantas could possibly pass PK this season, if he continues to average 12+ rebounds per game and IF he stayed four years, would most probably finish in second place behind Jerry...he just has a "high speed motor" when it comes to grabbing rebounds...

I know Dranginis has a chance to be the all time leader in team wins, but does he have a shot at making top 25 in assists? It seems like he has always done a good job of facilitating from his position and he has played a ton of games in 4 years.

Is Wiltjer working his way up the career 3 pointers made list? I know there have been quite a few 3 point bombers over the years, most of which played 4 years at GU. Although Dickau is somewhere up there with only 2 years.

Sabonis currently T-10 in single season rebounds at 313. His current pace of 11.6/game for 7 more games (3 reg season, 3 WCC tourney, 1 NCAA tourney) would put him at 394, good enough for 4th. Vermillion has the current top 4 (456, 440, 402, 372). Hopefully he gets a few more games than that.

Also, if you look at the single season record book...

Kyle Wiltjer and Frank Burgess are the only two Zags to be represented twice in the top 10 for points scored (FB, #2, 3; KW #7, 10)

KW is also 14th most FG shots in a single season with 219, 10 away from top 10 (Stockton '84) and 17th for 3P makes with 73, 6 short of tying for 10th (Stepp '04, Pangos '12) and would be the first person outside of Dickau, Stepp, Rillie, Frahm, Raivio, or Pangos in the top 14.

Sabonis has the most rebounds in a single season since '59, and likely will knock the rebound King Jerry Vermillion out of 1 of the top 4 rebounding seasons of all time (15 boards from tying for 4th best season in GU history)

With two more made FT's DS or with 16 KW will tie for 24th for most single season FTs

This is true. Glad you pointed out those single-season accompliments

+++

Dranginis is #2 all-time in wins (117). (Pangos #1 with 122, Bell #3 with 116)

Dranginis is also top 20 all-time in steals & 3's made

Vermillion and other Zags from the 40s, 50s, & 60s should be part of the career field goal and free throws lists but I guess GU lost their stats from those seasons or something, but still managed to include all of Burgess' career stats for the record books

If Karnowski comes back next year he will shatter this record.

I was wondering if Sabonis could theoretically ever catch Vermillion for the rebound record. Looks like he could if he plays 6 more years.

In theory, assuming DS stays for 70 more games, he would have to average over 14.5 rebounds per game to reach Vermillion's record. My guess is that there were a lot more missed shots in the early 50's than there are today or there may have been a recording error because Vermillion's numbers are just insane. If my math is correct DS is averaging about 11.5 rebounds per game this year. So at the rate he is improving it is possible in theory but even if he stays for 2 more years I don't see him playing too many 39 minute game in the future. Domas is the best rebounder I can remember at GU.

Shouldn't Karno be on that list with .622 last year?
