At some point it would be nice to see the Zags wear some light blue uniforms as were worn by guys like Stew Morrill and Joe Clayton.

Last years uniforms. Lobos auction them off and donate proceeds to N7 fund.

They also wear camo for Veterans Day and auction those off and donate to wounded warriors.

I'd like to see zags sell both types in store.

Why in the world would the Zags wear turquoise.... ever. Black is borderline. Red is evil... colors are Blue, White and red accent. Where the heck does turquoise fit into that?

I get the cause... but GU does a ton for Native Americans already and would rather they donate money to the cause instead. JMHO it would do more in the end than putting these unis on for one game.

There are a lot of Native American kids playing highschool basketball in our region. Sherman Alexie played for Ritzville. I've been to plenty of games at Wellpinit, Cusick and Inchelium. Wellpinit has a fantastic gym where the cafeteria overlooks the court. They have the best food ever for a high school venue, but no coffee. To reach Inchelium you need to take a ferry across the Columbia. I'm all for supporting Native American participation. Bravo Nike!

Edit: Cusick used to have a cake lottery and great bake sales at games to support their school.

So after all this time and all these years with the Native Americans struggling with poverty, unemployment, disease, alcoholism, lack of higher education, and what have you, all we had to do to solve the problem is wear turquoise Nike jerseys one game a year to help them out?

Who knew? And why didn't we think of this before?

Oops you're right. I get the old Bi-County League schools confused.

I apologize to you and Sherman for not double checking when I know my limitations so well.

Raising consciousness in any way is good thing. I agree that the serious problems experienced by many segments of our population have been neglected.

OH THE HUMANITY!!!!!

It is one game...for a cause

End of the day recruits love variety/options in uniforms...not saying it is a major deciding factor but it can't hurt

It's for one game-to encourage kids to play basketball. Can't see why anyone would actually object to this... Maybe if fans refuse to renew their season tickets, the turquoise jersey haters would get somewhere.

+1.

Why not wear different colors every game for 30 different causes? School colors are just sooooo old fashioned.

In related news, it turns out they cured breast cancer after figuring out that the one missing link was that we needed to have NFL players wear pink shoes on Sundays.

You are on fire right now. +1 Solid lines you would expect from a show writer for John Oliver.

To add to the great takes on SMC's new uniforms:

1) Is there an apostrophe on those jerseys on those as well? I seriously cannot tell.
2) The image below shows the backside of the jersey:

Oregon St. has been wearing turquoise unis for a game or two per year for quite a few years, but I don't think it has anything to do with Native American awareness (I actually have no idea why they do it, clearly not part of their black/orange color pattern).

I blame everything on the Oregon football program. The ridiculous mixing and matching and coming up with a new uniform every week and paying absolutely no attention whatsoever to school colors. It's completely tacky, but apparently kids love it and now most of the schools in the country are falling all over themselves to emulate UO in trying to come up with the ugliest uniforms possible and also as many alternate unis as they can manage to squeeze into a season. Bah humbug!

boo yeah he did! Go Indians!

edit: I actually didn't know he played hoops at Reardan. I was in school with his younger brother and he wasn't a baller. Well, in the hardwood sense of the word anyway.

I seem to recall a weekend watching teams of all shapes/sizes wearing military-like camo, American flags on helmits, etc. It seems like increased awareness is a good thing (IMO). I actually OD think the pink month increased awareness of how breast cancer devastates women and encouraged collections for research.

Who said it needed to cure all society's ills to not be worthwhile? I'd be fine with a shout-out to Native American culture, regardless. I'm sure the Celtics would, too.

Terrible, absolutely terrible. Next up, ads on unis.

Why even have school colors? No matter how good the cause, there are other ways to show it than to do away with your school colors and traditions.

Like I mentioned last year in this thread, why even have school colors. Just have 30 different causes and wear every color known to man.

Whatever it is, I just hope that the uniform is comfortable to play in. I know some of the latest football jersey designs have yielded a lot of complaints....that they're too tight, etc.

If players across the country autographed the jerseys, sold them on Ebay, and the resulting funds were donated to charities that support Native American causes, then you'd accomplish much more. Jes' sayin'...
